I work nights and I’m really trying to avoid eating out all the time, but I haven’t found any frozen food I like. Most frozen food makes the school cafeteria food taste like it’s a Michelin restaurant!
Pretty much any cuisine is fine with me and I certainly love spicy food.
Yes, I can make my own food at home and bring it in, but there’s some days that’s not happening, I like too have a few frozen meals at work so I’ll have something around.
There are a few different bowls, some I thought were bland but two I thought were spectacular… I buy them every week: “Three bean taco bowl” and “Tinga taco bowl”. You won’t be disappointed.
Trader Joe’s is pretentious and twee, but their frozen food section has some decent options. We get their gyoza/Japanese dumplings pretty often, although I don’t know if they’ll work for your purposes, since they’re not fully microwaveable (I think). They also have some pretty decent frozen Indian meals.
Stouffers is the best, readily available frozen food. The mac & cheese (esp if you mix with a small envelope of tuna and a handful of frozen mixed veggies). Their stuffed green peppers are quite good and their regular lasagna (haven’t tried the veggie lasagna). Even their spaghetti decent.
I haven’t tried the Chicken Piccata (but I will-- thanks), but their eggplant parmagiana is quite good. I overcook it in the microwave so that the edges are a bit crusty–yum.
I, too have been experimenting with some frozen stuff. I’m t1 diabetic so I’m careful. None have blown up my tastebuds. I kinda like lean-cuisine veggie lasagna. There’s a 5 cheese ravioli I like. Can’t remember the brand. I have very few options when it comes to grocery stores.
Oh, and there’s some egg rolls I like.
I’m having better luck in the canned dept. I like soups and beans alot. I put up my own peas and tomatoes every summer so I have those to fall back on. Good luck, if you find something outstanding let us know.
We do this on rainy weekends. Make a huge pot of soup or stew, cook a huge pan of lasagna, etc. Eat it fresh for dinner that night and package up the remainder for freezing and future use.
My go-to waffle recipe serves eight. We eat some for breakfast and I cool/package/freeze the rest.
This. TJ’s makes really good frozen dinners. My favorite is their Paneer Tikka Masala. And their cheese tamales have become my ‘comfort food,’ usually with a dab of their salsa verde.
