I’m surprized by the number of websites that are devoted to finding a job. Is monster.com all its cracked up to be? How about hotjobs? Damn, I miss just looking in the want-ads.
My search is for an office manager position or work in a biotech company (my first choice).
Monster.com is the biggest. You have to go online these days. Faxing unsolicited resumes and other such nonsense often gets your resume thrown out with the rest of the garbage because companies of any size aren’t used to dealing outside of e-mail. I am sure someone can point to exceptions but it is mostly true across the board.
I’ve found the biotech info website Biospace to contain a good job-hunting engine. However, they divvy up biotech areas into “regions” across America, and there doesn’t seem to be a job-hunting engine specifically for Colorado. In the event you’re looking afield, here’s the California bay area hotbed community engine, at least:
Thank you. I’ve been working in academics for five years and have been navigating our internal system for jobs. This is my first time out in the public sector in a looooooong time. Like any hunt, I have more failures than success - I’m 0/0 so far. There are days when I think of eliminating the middle-man and throwing the resume away myself.
Thank you very much for the information. Mouse_Spouse’s employer is based out of San Jose, so a move to California may be in our future. Its good to know that my career wouldn’t suffer from a move.
Also do company searches for biotech companies and check out their websites. If you have access to industry journals, check the back pages - fascinating how many jobs are still advertised that way. Don’t forget to check for government jobs, too.
