Inspired by this post but it’s hardly the first time it’s come up. I don’t know the complete story (and I don’t really care) but what I gather is there was notice given to Reeder that he could only have one anti-Bush thread on the front page at any given time. Now, it seems like any time someone (whether Reeder or another Doper) posts in such a way as that two Reeder threads appear on the front page at the same time, some half-wit feels the compulsion to jump in and comment about how Reeder has two anti-Bush threads on the front page.
Shut the fuck up about how Reeder has two anti-Bush threads on the front page. If you have nothing other than a little “gotcha ya!” to add to the thread, then back out of the thread and don’t waste your and everyone else’s time. The Mods are perfectly capable of monitoring the Reeder threads without any help from you.
I actually agree with Otto on this one. I bumped that thread to add some information about Ken Lay’s indictment. It wasn’t Reeder’s fault that it was on page one, it was mine. And I suspect that comment from millroyj caused Reeder to request the thread be closed.
Now I don’t get to mock Reeder sputtering comeback, which disappoints me.
Particularly since Reeder himself requested that the thread be closed more than two weeks ago, behavior such as milroyj’s in the example linked is especially irksome. Anyway, it hasn’t been my experience that milroyj has much of substance to add to any thread at all.

Actually, Brutus, by starting a Pit thread wherein he flames a particular type of behavior, and expresses a desire that everyone stop engaging in it, Otto seems to be firmly within the limits of behavior for which the Pit is intended.
Although I do wonder, in my heart of hearts: had anybody else’s post been used for the example, would you have been so inspired to bring the recursive element into the discussion?
A careful reading of the original thread, shows that Reeder requested a closing on the first day, noting that Apos’s thread was more eloquent. I’ve no idea whether TVeblen’s action was based on any more recent requests. Classy of you the take the responsibility for the bump, anyway.
This confuses me. How can you be disappointed by his sputtering comeback, if he didn’t even post one?
You know what would be really cool and downright classy? If millroyj were to drop by and apologize. My guess is that it was a run of the mill error. He sees the OP, knows that the OP has the one anti-Bush thread restriction and chimes in without checking the date and realizing that the thread had been bumped. Not great, but I am not 100% sure that I could claim that I would not do the same to a poster whose politics annoyed me. Just saying is all.
And really, to get off topic big picture here, I would like to see us all start cutting each other a little more slack when it comes to politics. I know that I have said this before, but I think it is worth repeating. Our country is very deeply divided right now. It is worth remembering that we are not each other’s enemies. All of us want the same things for our nation; the only difference is the plan that we have to get there.

I have to disagree. We don’t all want the same thing. I would rather the couple making 30k a year get a big tax break rather that the couple making 30 million a year. I would prefer our soldiers not die in a foreign country just because the administration decides they need to. I would prefer our politicians be honest. Many here in defiance of obvious lies would prefer we return the same liars to office.
It is not that I don’t get where you are coming from, but I must disagree. What I mean is that all of us want to be safe, happy and prosperous.
The person making 30K a year has the same desire to keep as much of his money as possible as the person making 300 Million a year. The basic desires that we all have can link us together, if we let them.
My take is that this foolish partisan bickering, in the end, will get us nowhere. It is hard, because both the left and the right feel betrayed and under attack. What I think we all need to realize is that the motivation behind what we do and say is essentially noble and honest.
I am willing to reach out, because in the end the stakes have become too high for us to keep fussing with archaic notions such as winners and loosers.
Umm, by bad, I apologize. I didn’t notice that the thread had been bumped. I admit, it was just a knee-jerk, pot-shot response on my part. Sorry, Reeder.
