I bet I get more mail than that gov’t office. Wow.
gobear, your post is a perfect example of why one shouldn’t jump into the middle of a conversation. Want to start a debate, you know how and where to go. Reeder laid a pile of shit and I called him on it. And as is typical of Reeder, I’m sure he’s now off starting more anti Bush shit in another thread.
Um, speaing of junior modding, who made you the arbiter of posting? Comments on taxation have been part of this thread, and I responded. Deal with it.
gobear, did you even read the thread? Not once did anyone state that the rich shouldn’t pay taxes, but you rant about hamburgers, terrorists, and clean water. It’s been pointed out by more than one poster, you can’t cut taxes for someone who doesn’t pay any. That’s basically the extent of the tax comments. All this in response to a bullshit statement reeder posted.
Man if your feelings got hurt, you have problems that posting on SDMB can’t solve.
Eh? You’re allowed to defend or oppose the cuts regardless of how much money you make.
One of the major things that differentiates taxes from charitable donations is that taxes are mandatory. I’m in favor of a highly progressive tax system. This means that I think people who make a lot of money should be forced to give a proportionately larger amount of their income to the government then people who don’t make a lot of money. Allowing people to make extra voluntary donations has absolutely nothing to do with taxes.
You pulled the “it’s MY money” card, and I pointed out the shortsightedness of the POV.
And I pointed out that the poor [udo pay taxes, both directly and indirectly.
Mind showing me where you got that? The thread is critical of junior modding, and I indicated the irony of you doing just that. But nice try at poisoning the well.
Stop beating yourself on the head with the stupid stick. Nobody is going John Birch Society in this thread. Could it possibly be that a taxpayer is concerned about how their money is being spent? Could it be that maybe a taxpayer would prefer taxes to focus on certain things? Could it be that a taxpayer has every fucking right in the world to voice their opinion as to how taxes are spent, and to what extent they are collected? Golly, it is ‘un-American’ of you to want to just happily gulp down whatever tax rate is imposed on you and how those taxes are spent.
I was responding to this statement of Reeder’s : "The couple making 30 million are in the what…30% bracket? So they pay about 9 million in taxes leaving them 21 million to live on. Boy that’s got to be a bitch. How the hell do they make it?
It looks like Reeder is resentful of a couple having 21 mil to spend. They’ve already paid 9 mil in takes. What more does he want?
There IS a progressive tax in this country. Maybe it doesn’t progress enough to suit you, but it’s progressive none the less.
Reeder whines as though he wouldn’t be satisfied until the couple making 30 mil paid $29,971,000 in taxes, leaving them with about the same amount of spending money as the couple who grossed 30K.
Do you want taxes to be THAT progressive?
No. I want them to be somewhat more progressive then they are, but not that progressive.
I didn’t read that in what Reeder said. He was certainly stating that he wanted a more progressive system, but I di
Fuck, I’m not going to waste any time defending Reeder. Flame away at the pinko liberuhl.
As I suspected.
And in the credit where it’s due category: Well done, milroyj.
Unless you are in a forum.
BTW, your post is the perfect example of why it is ironic to hijack a post to criticize someone for jumping into the middle of a conversation. And considering that you are junior-moding in a thread about junior-moding, it is a double irony.
Does this post mean that I am junior-moding your junior-moding?
Oh, I hope so.
John Carter of Mars, I don’t think that most folks mind other people being rich. What I mind is that too many people in our country don’t have access to good health care and decent living conditions. Benefits for veterans have been cut back. Our troops don’t have the protective gear that they need. You could add many things to this list. Then we read about how the Defense Department wastes a hundred million dollars over a few years on unused airline tickets and doesn’t even notice!
To make matters worse, we hear about a minority of rich people who wipe out corporations and pensions and stock holders and some of us start to think that there are just some people who are too rich to ever be held accountable. We hear about closed bidding deals for cronies and it eats at us. We have to remind ourselves that the majority of rich people are not like that at all.
What’s rich anyway? By the world’s standards, anyone with a home computer is very rich.
We just forget.
