Please tell me: why did I buy crispy jalapeños on Amazon?

So I just got a helpful notice from Amazon, telling me that some crispy jalapeños I ordered several weeks ago have finally shipped.

Apparently I ordered them at least a month ago. In the meantime I had forgotten all about that, but having gotten the notice, I now very, very, vaguely recall that “oh yeah, there was some recipe I read and thought would be good to make, which called for (probably as a garnish) crispy jalapeños.”

I’ve now tried looking through my internet history/NYT recipes/SDMB to find a reference to crispy jalapeños. I’m coming up dry.

So tell me, oh wise and food-loving Dopers: why did I order crispy jalapeños?

Maybe to put them on top of the green bean casserole, instead of crispy onions? I seem to recall reading the suggestion before Thanksgiving. NYT food section, maybe?

Be great on avocado/tomato toast.

I didn’t know they existed until recently. In the last couple of days a video recipe using them popped up on my algorithm. Maybe we have the same algorithm.

I googled ‘recipes using crispy jalapeños’ and the top hits were for hash brown potato casseroles.

Biryani makes generous use of crispy onions-- I bet mixing the crispy onions up with some crispy jalapeños for an extra kick would be really good.

I like the ideas being proposed! None of them are ringing a bell, except @Loach may be onto something - I do occasionally watch Emmy Made in Japan cooking videos, and that sounds like something she would use,

I’m racking my brain trying to figure it out.

You need a reason? They’re crispy jalapeños.

(adds to Next Order list on Amazon)

I always get ‘em when I’m grabbing a sandwich at Jimmy John’s, because, well, that thing you just said.

Found it! Thanks to @Loach who suggested it could have been a YouTube video. It was.

Not that I have a deep desire to make the tuna salad featured in the video, but that’s where I learned that crispy jalapeños exist. And then of course, @running_coach et al are correct - knowing that they exist, how could I resist trying them?

Mystery solved! But if there are more good ideas out there for how to use them, I’m listening (or reading, as the case may be).

Do you like Mexican food? That would go really well with it. Tacos with the jalapenos as one of the condiments, or over enchiladas. A black bean and rice casserole with cheese and jalapenos on top. Taco salad. Put them in a quesadilla. Sprinkle them on top of taco or enchilada soup instead of crispy tortilla strips.

They would make a great hamburger topping, too.

Asking why you bought something online is folly.

For sure! My SDMB Secret Santa (@JaneDoe42) sent me a family recipe and ingredients to make chili rellenos - I’ll make it when the crisps arrive, and, as my son likes to proclaim, “Now we shall feast!”

One of my regular dishes is a Mexican Chicken and Rice casserole. OMG - this sounds like the perfect topping!

Ditto.

This thread is making me very very happy!

Yeah as soon as I read the post my mouth just started watering with all of the ways these would be perfect in just about any Mexican-adjacent dish I could think of!!

I have also ordered some…

Just checked. Our local grocery store has them, and they’re cheaper than Amazon. Makin’ tacos tonight!

Thanks to this thread, I sent the link to a friend of mine who absolutely needs this item in his life. And pantry.

Thank you! It was a video of someone making that recipe. The funny thing is, it was a different person but it was the same recipe.

Update: The shipment was delayed but did eventually arrive. To start with, I was astonished at how big and heavy the bags were. It was A LOT of crispy jalapeños.

Which is fine, because they are delicious. I am snacking on them way too much, and I still have about 1 and 2/3 bags left.

They are a bit hotter than I expected; I think of jalepeños as pretty mild. But I like hot, so bring it on!

Highly recommended, in other words.

I’d think they’d go well with eggs. Why not sprinkle them on top of an omelet (putting them inside an omelet might turn them soggy)?
