Please welcome our new moderator, ParallelLines

Oh, og. It was the absolute worst with my Faraday Terrier.

Congrats, @ParallelLines !

Judging by the posts I’ve read by, and interactions with, PL, I know they will be a great mod.

Would somebody please let us know when it’s once again okay to cry havoc and let slip the online dogs of war?

Thank you.

:wink:

I am pleased to see that @ParallelLines is now a mod. Here is someone unlikely to cross the streams!

(It would be bad.)

Congrats @ParallelLines!

Congrats @ParallelLines, thanks for keeping us on the straight and narrow.

It’s interesting how many posters are giving congratulations. @ParallelLines isn’t receiving an award; they’re being shipped out to the front lines. I’d think something like a firm handshake and “do us proud” is more appropriate.

How about …

Welcome!

@ParallelLines, AHEM. We’re all standing around with drinks in our hands (and ice condensation causing dribbles down to our elbows) and the Other Mods (who shall remain nameless but you know who you are) will not let us touch the hors d’oeuvres* until you pop in and say a few words.

<ThelmaLou taps her foot>

Crabmeat and shrimp don’t improve when they’re made to hang out in their shrouds of mayonnaise indefinitely, don’tcha know. You wouldn’t want to be the accessory to mass food poisoning, eh? :face_with_monocle:

IOW, gitchyseff over here and make us a bunch of empty campaign sincere, heartfelt promises about how our SDMB experience will henceforth and forever be enhanced by your MOD-i-fication. See what I did there?

*Or as my late husband and his 1961 class of Texas Aggies used to call them: “whore’s ovaries.” Yeah, they were a crude bunch.

Or, to quote the mothers of Sparta: “Come back with your shield or on it.” They were tough broads.

Don’t blow it! We all know that, but ParallelLines presumably doesn’t yet (or he wouldn’t have volunteered). He still thinks this is a good thing.

@ParallelLines, blink “… --.- ..- .. -..” if you are being coerced.

Thanks all, and a very sincere apology to @ThelmaLou and all for not responding earlier, I was up last night training, and of course, one does not accidently ban Kazakhstan and then get to run off to bed without consequences! That, plus minor, IRL annoyances has me running about four hours behind today, I would not normally dare to keep you all unacknowledged!

Seriously though, I’m bookmarking this thread! Such a lot of praise I don’t think I’ve earned, and with such low amounts of snark and blatant sucking up by the standards of the Board that I feel fine with rounding down to none! I will use it to console my broken heart when one day I mod note one of you fine people and find myself being lovingly (?) and with exquisitely polite language grilled over my call. Note, I do not say if it will or will not be warranted though!

As for the work involved, yeah, it’s honestly terrifying, but I figure that for the USA and the world, we’re in a bumpy stretch, we’re all going to be angry and stressed, and it’s going to leak into our posts. So I ended up asking for a couple of days to consider it (they told me they were going to throw me in the deep end, so I can’t complain TOO much). After thinking though, I value you guys too much to not try to step up to keep things running as a community as long as the hamster-wheel keeps this place running. Being an active poster during the isolation of Covid kept me, well, not sane, (@miller indicated in a prior thread that they only accept moderators who were already nuts) but functional.

So go forth, and know that when I must eventually mod note you, it’s going to be with the best intentions, and if/when I screw up, well, I point to my chosen pre-mod title: I wish to plead incompetence. :wink:

Dang it… You’re ruining it… We’re trying to make this look like a good thing.

I suppose I should use this opportunity to welcome @ParallelLines and get on his good side before inadvertently getting on his bad side. It’s always a smart idea to bank a little good will. Never know when you’re going to need it.

So, congrats, @ParallelLines!

Yay!

Let the games begin! Pass the shrimp (which was about to go south) and the bubbly!

But do the jackboots have glitter?

Hey, Congrats, Parallel_Lines! Excellent choice. Even tempered and knowledgeable, and a good sense of humour to boot!

I had Jenny approach me once years ago, but since my job involves dispute resolution on a lot of days, I didn’t feel like taking off the office jack boots, coming home to put on the SDMB jackboots, and get to work.

But I have nothing but admiration and warm thanks for those of you who do.

Congrats @ParallelLines.

I’ll do my best to not make you work too hard. :wink:

Um, so I wasn’t supposed to start, then?
