Welcome our newest moderator

We have a new moderator in MPSIMS: Spectre of Pithecanthropus

He’s newly beaten with the Scepter of Power, so y’all be nice to him while he gets his bearings and discovers just exactly what he did sign up for.

(And somebody take that goat to the vet, wouldja? Sheesh.)

Welcome aboard!

Thanks, Twickster.

Glad to have you on the team, [del]sucker[/del] Spectre!

Welcome Spectre. I will try to behave.

Now that’s what this messageboard needs, a moderator whose nick you can’t say without pausing for breath; twice.

Please don’t ban my dog…

YOU ARE ONE OF US.

And shit.

… and for gawdsakes, someone give 'im a decent title.

I’m not sure whether to congratulate you or commiserate with you, Spectre.

BTW am I seeing double or has Tuba got Administrator Administrator under her name? (And Spectre has Moderator Moderator.)

What’s with that?

Edit: I gather from penultima thule that the title must default to the position.

There are a bunch of spare mod titles in this thread and this one.

Fresh Meat!

Fresh Meat!

…er, um, Welcome!

Hi. Please don’t ban me.

You do have a point; I’ve often wished for something shorter and snappier, but this is hardly the time to change it.

I think it’s a stylish name. Although I keep confusing it with a Charles Mingus album title. Where did you come up with it anyway?

So far the mods are about evenly divided between calling him “Specs” and “Pithy.” (I prefer the latter.)

Spithy?

SoP? Soppy? (Please don’t ban me for that. )

Anagrammatically appropriate.

I’m sure this has been asked and answered before, but what is the selection process for bringing in a new mod? Do the mods all vote on a list of people and then ask the top contenders if they would like to be mods? Or do people volunteer, and the mods vote on this group? Some combination of the two? Use of goat entrails and/or hallucinogenics factor in??

Just curious.

Sometimes people approach us and ask for an application, and sometimes we’ll contact someone who we think would do a good job and ask if they would like to apply. I don’t have statistics but I think the first option is more common. After the application is in, it gets filed away. When there’s an opening, the mods discuss the poster and his or her application and we make a recommendation to Ed Zotti.

Yes, but that’s part of my daily SDMB routine anyway.
