I saw produce (watermelon, etc) in that store room.
Mmmmm… watermelon-flavored people…
It’s still only been about a week, there’s plenty of non soylent food around.
Nice catch! I think you’re exactly correct. Eggs to save the day!
This culture is totally different from your (and my) culture. It’s completely alien in its needs and wants. To the pod people, this situation is ideal for their culture. To them, this is not stagnation at all. Instead it’s a time of wonderous growth. It’s the opposite of stagnation .
There is no culture. Culture is gone. They are all one big organism and each person is a cell.
The other immunes have not internalized this because they want to pretend their loved ones are still there but Carol has.
Yeh, and I think it’s only a matter of time before it starts to dawn on some of the other immune.
I’m looking at you, Laxmi.
Presuming the Others know about the eggs, maybe the plan is to impregnate some of their women with Carol’s kids. Maybe as leverage? I don’t know I’m just speculating about possible shocking twists.
Or, using Carol-Clones to experiment on to try and cure her immunity.
But, I dunno. Baby factories, clones, alien spawns, extraterrestrial spores, etc… All that just feels so far afield of the more grounded, subtle sci-fi Gilligan has stated as his intent for this show. I’d be surprised if he went that over-the-top with the genre.
I was wondering what happens when or if Mr. Air Force One/Vegas impregnates one of the hundreds of models he’s banging. Are they doing anything to prevent that or encourage it?
We do get a peek of him in this upcoming episode. I’m curious what he’s been up to and how the hive has been “accommodating” him.
I’m not convinced either of those things have been inexplicably established yet nor that one implies the other. In fact, “happiness” is perhaps the number one goal of most art and culture.
As everyone knows The Borg are well known for their poetry.
Better than the Vogans.
I’ll be very disappointed if this show doesn’t defy all of the tired old Star Trek expectations you and others in this thread have about the nature of this collective.
I am sorry but everything about the hive is terrifying. There is no way what has happened to humanity is a good thing. They don’t have to be the Borg (that was a joke) but I am 100% with Carol: people need to be freed from this.
That could be a good GD thread but I certainly don’t think so.
I think communication is. Of ideas of emotions of the ineffable … of something that we are not even sure what we are trying to express until we express it, and communicating only with ourself. When we are one vast overmind? How that mind “thinks” would not be understandable to we individual cells of it even if we maintain a sense of individuality.
Specifically I don’t think calling it a culture would be accurate anymore. It is a metaorganism that is completely alien in its needs and wants created out of individual minds by way of an alien infection imposed upon them without prior consent. The presumption is that a previous such individual metaorganism has reproduced by infecting humanity if not other sentences species. And it is currently trying to make the “immune” happy and is itself disturbed when Carol tantrums. It prefers to not intentionally kill.
Does anyone else feel like Helen not even bothering to finish reading Carol’s book was a complete asshole move? specially since they seemed to work together.
A mild one. From the business partner POV she read enough to make her assessment: not gonna sell much, won’t tank the series line’s popularity, will make her happy to publish it. But as life partner POV? I think honest feedback that it doesn’t grab her as a reader would have been better …
But isn’t that the point? Helen tried to make grumpy Carol happy. Enabled her drinking. The collective at least started out the same way.
