By the way, Beppos serves “family style”, same as a lot of Chinese restaurants. (I checked the menu out on the web.) Just FYI.
Incidentally, for Metro bus riders, the 17 going TO downtown Seattle runs right by Beppos. The 17 going North runs within a block (east) of Beppos. You can catch it downtown on 4th Avenue.

My earthlink email account won’t let me retrieve the messages that have accumulated there…so if you emailed me and I haven’t responded, my apologies. I’ve tried everything I can, and it just keeps telling me I have performed an illegal act or something. Sheesh!
I have also been quite preoccupied with a family situation, but I am keeping up with this thread and tommorow afternoon I will get organized and figure out how many people are coming so I can make reservations.
So…if you are planning on coming and haven’t posted here, please do. I am sure that we can squeeze in a few people at the last minute, but it would be nice to be able to give the restaurant a fairly accurate count by Friday morning.
I’m looking forward to this, and barring some unforseen complication, I do plan to be there.

Okay, MAJOR hitch in our plans.
The restaurant has an unprecedented four large parties booked at 4PM Saturday, and won’t take my reservation.
Unless one of those parties is us, booked by one of you (jeyen? I hope,) we either need to get there at four and they will seat us when our whole party is there and they have a table (she said that AFTER we are all there it would probably be an hour wait.)
Or, we need to find a different restaurant. Yikes, it didn’t even OCCUR to me that a restaurant wouldn’t be pretty much EMPTY that early on a Saturday.
And…I have never been there, and don’t even know if there is a bar we could wait in.
I am so sorry, guys, I guess this is my fault. I live in Bellingham, and it honestly amazes me that this is a problem. It sure wouldn’t be up here in the far north.

Okay, guys.
After a BAD night’s sleep, I decided that I am going to call and speak to the manager as soon as Buca’s opens. If they can guarantee us a table within an hour or so after we all meet there at 4, I will tell them we will be there. Otherwise, I am going to call the Lynnwood Buca’s and see if they have anything available.
I am so sorry about this. I told my tale at work this morning, and my staff was divided between Bellinghampster’s (I can’t BELIEVE it is a problem to get a res at 4PM on a Saturday… THREE days ahead!) and my more “cosmopolitan” staff-those who occasionally get OUT of Bellingham (You are and idiot, Cheri. Why didn’t you ASK me?)
Anyway, I also emailed katrina to see if Three Dago’s opens at 4, and if so could they seat us.
Also suggested by my office assistant…Ray’s Boat House or Anthony’s Home Port. She thinks they could both accomodate us with a reservation for 20 this late.

Can’t get hold of anyone at Buca’s until 2PM, so I made a reservation for us at Anthony’s Bell Street Cafe on Pier 66 for 4PM Saturday. On the water, beautiful view and recommended by two people I have talked to today.
I will still call Buca’s at 2PM, but if that doesn’t work out I will get busy with directions and so forth for Anthony’s.
I will let you know for sure what is going on tonight.

Take a deep breath, Cheri. Relax. You’re doing just fine.
You know that where we fest isn’t anywhere near as important as who we fest with. Anthony’s Bell Cafe sounds great, or wherever we end up. (How about we just meet at the pergola in Pioneer Square? What? Oh, never mind.)
The only real advantage to Beppo’s is that they’re noisy anyway and they wouldn’t notice any additional noise we make. Anthony’s might notice but we are a very subdued, polite group, unlike those other Dopers in places like Springfield or Dallas.
Only a couple of days and you can take out your frustrations on us personally by raising your voice at us and disagreeing with our carefully reasoned arguements about why we’re right and everyone else is wrong. Thanks for EVERYTHING you’ve done to make this happen.

So…manager says that if everyone is actually THERE exactly at 4PM, she can guarantee a table for us. If we wait in the bar (they DO have a bar, btw) until 4:30 or so for stragglers, she can’t guarantee anything (but wouldn’t be too worried if she were me.)
I am going to hunt down the lady I spoke with last night and…speak SEVERELY to her!
So…can everyone actually BE there by 4PM? Or, is there a bar nearby where we could meet a little sooner and descend on Buca di Beppo en masse?
You all go ahead, and have a nice time. I’m going to find a nice padded room to have my nice quiet nervous breakdown in. Maybe you can bring me your leftovers?

I think the best plan is to meet at Beppo’s at 4PM…I doubt seriously that 200 hundred people are going to storm the doors that early, and we can meet in the bar. Anyone who isn’t there by 4:30, we will have to assume isn’t coming, and we can have them seat us at that time.
I doubt seriously that they would forbid the one possible latecomer from joining us if she comes late…I just think they won’t allow us to be seated with an empty chair. Seems kind of weird to me, but that is their policy. We can always fit one more in to whatever space they have already given us, I am sure.
So, if anyone who has confirmed and is on the above list CAN’T come, I would appreciate it if you would email me, or post to this thread. I will check it just before I leave Bellingham at 1PM.
