Welcome aboard, juji_mojo! Always room for one more!
I think we’ll probably go for Indian food instead of the Naam. Zyada is the guest of honour for this one (her idea, after all), so her taste prevails. (Of course, I’ll probably feed her samosas when she comes to work with me on Thursday, but that won’t sate her lust for curry.)
Now to get all these people to suggest a restaurant and a time …
Coming in a little late this evening, but I think Saturday might be best for Scotticher and was the day I was thinking. Is that better or worse for anyone?
Yet another suggestion: Akbar’s Own, another one on Broadway near Burrard.
If somebody doesn’t offer a preference soon, I’ll have to pick a place at random!
We’ll find you something mild, zoogirl. Maybe if you bring the rabbit, you can have your very own special dish! (I wouldn’t have invited a lizard. to zooguy!)
Hands off the Bunny! Btw, his name is Salt. Used to have a mate called Pepper, apparently…
Saturday’s good and a go, then. I don’t know how you all feel about New West, but I just picked up a flyer from the corner store by work for an Indian resturaunt. It’s called the Royal Tandoori and it’s on Sixth Street. I think it’s the big place just above Queens. It’s advertised as seating over one hundred. Extensive menu, prices that top out at 16.95, but average 8.95 - 10.95. Licenced, free parking. It closes at ten on a Saturday though.
Like I said, I’m pretty much OK for anywhere in the Lower Mainland.
Let’s see… What time would this be at again? Awana ends at around 6:30-ish, so anytime after that is fine. (assuming transiit / my friends can get me there somehow!) It’s at my church (address probably in webiste), so if anyone wants to pick me up from there or something, that would be fine too. I promise not to wear my Awana uniform at dinner, but I can’t promise not to bore you with LOTS (or some) of kiddie stories!
But if it’s in New West… dunno. However, Indian food would be pretty good by me. I think there’s another Indian restaurant on Broadway, but its name escapes me at the moment. (that is, if there is indeed one, and my brain’s not playing tricks on me again)
So Flam, that’s Nanaimo and Broadway, right? So if we aim for 7:00 on the Saturday (April 5, just to be clear), we can pick you up on the way. We’ll get you home somehow without having to take the bus. And there’s lots more than just ‘another Indian restaurant on Broadway’; I was just suggesting those I stumbled across that also had good reviews.
Unless I get a strong objection, I’ll go ahead and pick the place: Akbar’s Own, 1905 W. Broadway, at Cypress, a block west of Burrard. The site even has a map and driving directions. I’ll make the reservation on Thursday.
Hey, it’s the weirdest thing. I clicked on Flam’s Church site and had a look. That worked Ok, but when I went to Akbar’s, it kept kicking me back to the Church site instead of the menu’s etc. Hmmm. If I wasn’t already a Baptist I’m think someone’s tryin’ to tell me somethin’. Flam, we can trade kid stories! I do the Gr. 5-7’s at mine.
I’m trying to think - Broadway and Burrard - that’s gotta be near the Skytrain somewhere, right? I’m walking distance from Gateway and Surrey Central. (Don’t panic, I was brought up in Burnaby!)
Are we meeting right in front of the resturaunt or is someone going to get there early and wait at the table? Is the place jeansable with a nice top, or do I need to cough up dress pants or (God forbid!) a skirt?
zoogirl, get off the train at Broadway and take a 9 Broadway bus westbound. There’s also a 99 B-line that picks up there, but I don’t know if he stops at Burrard. Alternatively, take the train all the way downtown to Burrard Station and catch a Burrard bus, whatever it’s number is.
The reservation is in: Saturday, April 5, 7:00 pm, under the name Cecil Adams (of course!). The address is Akbar’s Own, 1905 West Broadway, a block west of Burrard
I don’t know about anybody else, but I’ll be wearing jeans.
Are you relieved about the jeans, or that Zyada claims not to be a hussy? If it’s the latter, make up your own mind when you meet her. The shamelessness is obvious from her posts.
Woohoo! This time next week I’ll be sitting on the Skytrain, chewing my nails and having a big ol’ shot of adreniline! Nervous, who me?
Hey, aren’t there more local Dopers out there? Has anyone tried contacting the other’s? I’ve been sort of seeing this shindig as rjk and Zyada’s party. Have either of you tried emailing the rest of the area Doper’s? Since the thread keeps disappearing, maybe they just don’t know about it.
There have been a few others around here, but nobody very active. I’ve met Niggle, but haven’t seen him for quite a while. Sinshine signed up when Ginger of the North was passing through, but I think only posted a few times before she disappeared. There are probably more I don’t recall right now.
