Pokemon trading sans wi-fi?

I want to trade pokemon with my girlfriend (she has soul silver and I have Pearl), so they’re both 4th gen and compatible with another. Yet super sucky Nintendo has decided that there is no way their precious DS can use WPA.

I’m annoyed by that, and I really, REALLY don’t want to have to change my router settings and all my computers to WEP, both for security reasons and because it’s inconvenient!

I can’t seem to find any way with Download and Play or other local connections to trade or battle. Any help?

In Pearl, go to the Pokemon Center and use the middle lady upstairs to enter the Union Club; this will let you make a local connection with your girlfriend, as long as she’s physically in the same room as you are – no WiFi required.

In Soul Silver, this is the middle lady in the Pokemon Center’s upstairs as well.

That said – I share your disgust at the insistence on WEP.

At my house, to accomodate Bricker Jr’s DS and WEP, I have a separate WAP running WEP. This WAP runs to a dual-homed Fedora host running as a router. Only traffic for Nintendo’s IP ranges are permitted through, along with a few other sites. I have his DS and his iPod Touch set up to use that WiFi, so I can manage his Internet access. His bedroom computer is also on that (wired) subnet.

Woo hoo! Thanks Bricker!!
