Polish Pickles

I am in the US. I like pickles imported from Poland, mostly. There is no American made pickle that is even close to acceptable to me. They are way too salty and/or too vinegary, and I like vinegar. I don’t like mild ones that only have texture either. Barrel pickles are either too mild or too sour. What’s up with this?

Anyone else like a subtle pickle with the right mix of salt and vinegar and water?

I never met a pickle I didn’t like. I sometime pickle my garden grown cucumbers and green tomatoes and try different flavor profiles. I grew up on kosher dills so that’s what I’m used to, and that’s what I generally prefer, but I like pretty much anything pickled with the exception of Herring.

McClure’s Spicy are my favorites.

That’s one pricy pickle.

I didn’t even notice the price on that site. The store I got my last batch at had them on a buy one get one free deal, so I think they were closer to $6 per jar and they are well worth it.

My favorite is the Vlasic Zesty Dill. I just wish it had a bit more garlic to it but otherwise they are perfect.

My favorite brand of pickles is Kruegermann. I particularly like the spicy uborka (Hungarian style), spicy garlic, and hausfrauenart pickles. The last are probably best for people who don’t like them too sour or salty. Their web site has a list of retailers. If no one close to you carries them, you can order them on-line here.

I assume you’ve tried Claussen. They may not be what you are looking for but they are far and away my favorite pickles.

I like Polish pickles, but the barrel ones. I’m not as much a fan if vinegar pickles as I am the fermented kind, which have a subtler and funkier sourness to them. They are similar/the same as kosher sours or half sours.

Aside from sours and half-sours I’ve eaten at delis or flea markets(!), my favorite pickles are Ba-Tampte Garlic Dill. Not a fan of most others, so if anyone has a rec that’s similar to the garlic dill, I’d love to try it.
