I was just munching on some Farman’s dill pickles and thinking that these are the best pickles on the market, aside from the ones you pluck from a barrel. You can have your sorry old Vlasic, your tasteless Nalleys, your soggy Heinz. For me it’s crunchy, garlicky Farmans and nothing else. How 'bout choo?
Tony Packo’s Sweet Hot Pickles and Peppers. I could eat them for a MEAL.
Garlic pickles - ubber garlic pickles! and sometimes butter pickles. As far as the brand… I’m guilty of usually getting Vlasic, sorry.
Bubbies. There is no better pickle on the face of this earth. Anyone who says otherwise simply has not known the goodness that is a Bubbies pickle, cold and crisp right out of the refrigerator.
Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer
Well good God almighty which way do I steer
Last summer I got a chance to tour Sechler’s pickle factory, where Tony Packo products are made. It was a neat little factory and we picked up tons of pickled peppers, they were very proud of the M.A.S.H. connection.
Gundelsheim Barrel Garlic Pickles are my current favorite. Although I’ve made some really good pickles myself. I whipped up a batch of pickled pineapple a couple of years ago that was fabulous. I make some tasty pickled peaches too. At least my family says so.
I adore those little tarragon-and-onion flavored tiny cornichons from France. Not only are they good on their own, they’re also good sliced into tiny slices and slipped inside a sandwich, and they’re also good chopped and added to the tartare sauce.
In addition, there’s the whole universe of Japanese pickles and Korean pickles. I’ve not tasted one I don’t love, but I particularly love those big yellowish pickled daikons with their satisfying loud crunch.
Wickles. We just about buy them by the case.
Kroger Select Zesty Bread & Butter. Thin sliced about the width of a quarter, they’re perfect for sandwiches.
Dominick’s brand kosher baby dills. And I mean the Dominick’s brand - not safeway or whatever else they call it. The jar says “Dominick’s”.
Or the pickles they have at Subway - those are really good too.
Klausen baby. All day.
the only time i nosh vlasic is their bread and butter pickles with hebrew national hotdogs on sweet hawaiian rolls (substituting as the hotdog bun), with a dollop of mayo. mm mm, good!
otherwise, the divemaster’s killer, kosher, ice-cold-numb-your-fingers-at-the-touch garlic foo’d dill pickle quarters. i bow my head in shame because i cannot recall the brand, but rest assured there’s enuff garlic in them to knock a cold silly.
The only two things I miss about serving outside of the U.S. is Taco Bell and proper refrigated pickles. Claussen or Ba-Tempte (they’re fermented) for preference.
Mt. Olive kosher dill pickles are the only pickle for me. If I move away from NC, I’m taking cases of 'em with me.
My grandmother’s own, whether they were sweet or bread and butter. I have never had a jar pickle that tasted anything like hers. There was love in those damned pickles, love and seven days of work involved.
Because I’ve given up searching, I settle for cheap and edible, which is usually Kroger brand bread and butters.
Bubbie’s bread & butter.
We have Mt. Olive kosher dill in Arkansas
My sister lives near the Farman plant in Enumclaw. That’s all you can smell when the wind blows just right. My son works for Nalley in Tacoma. They are both owned by the same company. I take any brand of sweet gherkin.
We have a pickle stand at a local farm market. I can get Fresh, Green, Crispy, Garlic Dills. These are the best pickles I have ever had. I love them. I can buy a quart and eat most of it myself in the 3 day window they stay crisp.
Ba-Tempte from the Supermarket refrigerated section are tasty and what I normally buy.
