Poll: Asking about ladies underwear

…and shaves its cooter…

Does anyone here not know for a fact that Diogenes the Cynic is wrong? If anyone wants to step forward and say they’re not sure he’s wrong, I’ll gladly qualify my “yes.”

Maybe it wasn’t the reference to underwear that squicked her but the word “sport” used as a verb. Could it be slang for something like, I don’t know, “stuff in your butthole” or “give your brother for his birthday” ? Just asking, since I have no idea what ‘squicked’ means.

OK, I’ll step in to say DtC may not be wrong. I think it is clear the guy in the OP misread some signals. Either he didn’t pick up on her being crazy, or he didn’t pick up on her not being that into him.

My vote goes for the banter, whatever it was, was OK with her, but when it sounded like he expected to see her underwear the first time they went out
My take on the banter:

Him: But were you thinking about me that way?
Her: LOL, yeah.

Him: Did you ever hear about giving a BJ with an Altoid in your mouth?
Her: LOL, yeah, it’s called a Creme de Menthe

Her: Do you know what I found in my salad at Denny’s? A pubic hair!
Him: Eeeew! Which Denny’s?

If the guy referenced in the OP wants to try to save the situation, he could try talking by phone and explaining that he really just meant it as a stupid joke–because I can totally relate to that “first thing out of my mouth did not receive prior authorization from brain” thing. And as Dopers we are all well aware that things come across different online than they do in person.

I think he tried to apologize but she told him to never contact her again, so it’s just not worth trying.

Plus at this point, all of his friends are not fans of this girl so it’d be pretty awkward for him if he actually did get into a relationship with her.

Whether or not she is crazy or he was truly out of line, he needs to buck up and get over her (easier said than done, I know). Hopefully his sulking time is proportional to the flirting time and he’ll be over it in less than a month (MUCH less than a month, I hope).

Then by all means I concede the point. Not everybody knows for a fact DtC is wrong.

Name a single person who does. Please support your contention with evidence.

I think the key thing is that in a poll of women, the general response is more likely to be the accurate response. Coming in and disagreeing is one thing, but to carry on disagreeing in a poll as each poller comes in is rather poor behavior.

Really? Only one opinion is acceptable in a poll?

Why on earth do you people think she is a nutter. The facts of the case as I see them are.

  1. He and she flirted online for a while.
  2. She stopped the flirting with a vaguely plausible excuse.
She didn’t want things to move farther than just online flirting and came up with the first excuse that popped into her head. This sounds pretty par for the course to me. Maybe she could have come up with a better excuse but she would still be shooting down this guys advances and that is going to hurt him no matter what.

Thank you for validating that fact.
