Poll: Colognes for men

My hubby wears Safari, which is pretty nice. I like Drakkar, but he doesn’t! I also like Joop Homme and Cool Water.

Curve and Obsession make my knees go weak, my pulse speed up…and I get a little soft in the heart department.

Two ex-boyfriends wore them, but I still adore both. I think they are so flattering on any man, but neither women’s version smells good on me.

Of course, there’s absolutely nothing better than leaning in close to a guy and smelling that heady mix of cologne, sweat, aftershave, laundry detergent, and anything else that might be mixed in, regardless of what the actual cologne is.

BTW, I hate Drakkar. Maybe it just smells delicious on you, Suo Na, because every time I have smelled it, (like Falcon) I was overwhelmed by it.

No one has mentioned the one and only cologne that I wear and shall continue to wear.

Kouros

By Yves Saint Laurent. It’s the only men’s cologne that doesn’t make you smell like a French cat house.

My current favorite is Guerlain’s Vetiver, although I like most of Aveda’s scents and will sometimes borrow one from my wife. I used to wear Bath & Body Works Canyon, but I don’t think they still make it.

Mmmmmm…Gilligan. My husband still has some Canyon left. He wears it when we get dressed up to go somewhere special and he wants a little somethin’ later on.

OMG We both got the name wrong the exact same way. It’s actually Xeryus by Givenchy and I’ve been searching for it since I got a bottle as a gift back in 198-something and ran out. I think they discontinued it and are just now bringing it back. I found it, here:

I know, I know. This post is 10 years old, but You may still be interested. After all, I still am.

Soap.

Catalyst, Jovan Musk for Men

I can’t stabd strong cologne. I prefer something subtle and mild like Lacoste.

I never was really a cologne person until last year. I guess if anything was my mid life crisis I guess going out and buying colonge was it. The sales woman asked if she could help me.

I told her I was looking for something mild and didn’t know what exactly I was looking for .

She asked me what do you normally wear ?

Speedstick was my response.

You men, she replied.

I used to use Grey Flannel.

My wife switched me to Red for Men, Lagerfeld, and a few others that I can’t name. She works in the business and I occasionally get ‘mistakes’, but its actually a cruel hoax.
If I ever actually dare to wear any (which I like) all I get is “Ewwww! You smell like Work!” :frowning:

I wear Issey Miyake’s “L’Eau d’Issey” for men. It’s not a stong smell, and has none of the harsh or biting notes that I find most men’s colognes to contain. It’s apparently the first men’s cologne this person ever made, so I guess it’s kinda girly, but I like it and most strangers loove it. My second favorite is Calvin Klein Eternity, which is a little musky, but not too much.

The problem with recommending cologne is that it smells differently on every guy.
My ex’s body chemistry would make most colognes smell sweet. What smelled great in the bottle would smell horrible on him.

This said, IMO, avoid the big hits of past years. I smell Obsession or Polo and I can’t help but think the guy also has parachute pants and members only jackets in his closet.

Drakkar Noir? It smells like a dirty man. Not sexy.

“Fahrenheit” by Christian Dior has been my go to for years

I liked the smell of Jean Paul Gaulthier, but for some reason, it smelled not too good on me.

My favorite is Santos by Cartier.

Being judgmental here, never smelled them, but they sound just horrible and cheap, like…like…Axe! Men - never wear cheap cologne! Just don’t. If you must, just a touch, please don’t bathe in it.

I adore Grey Flannel and Halston, and often wear a touch, myself. I can’t get Mr. Sali to wear cologne, he has reeked of Coast soap from day one, and that. is. that. One time he ran out of his flavor of Speedstick and was forced to wear a Musk scent deodorant, which increased his attraction, scentwise, 100%. But that was an anomaly.

I’ll bet Old Spice is doing great business after their successful commercials. That is something one either loves or hates. The only thing I really like about it is the old fashioned vintage bottle, with the ship on it, that I found at a garage sale!

I would recommend Polo Sport or Fahrenheit, too.

A little goes a long way.

Speaking of musk, I was wearing Kiehl’s Musk lotion when my dad smelled it on my wrist and asked for some for Christmas, just gave him a bottle about two hours ago. I love it, it’s unisex without being too cloying and a little dab’ll do ya. I can’t stand Polo in the green bottle as EVERY guy in college who thought he was cool even a little bit wore it. One of my ex’s wore Bijan for Men, which was nice . . .

This hot girl at University got me a bottle of Swiss Army cologne. Concentrated pheromones in a pump spray bottle!

But then a few years back they started selling it at Wal-Mart, so it’s not chic no more. :frowning:

Burberry Touch is my wife’s favorite, and by extension, mine as well.
