Both of my employers required proof of vaccination. And both wanted me to upload a photo to document my status. (I think one also checked with the state.) A couple other places asked me to demonstrate i was vaccinated, but they all were happy with the photo on my phone. A few other places asked me to assert my vaccination status.
I don’t see any reason to remove the photo from my phone. I have thousands of photos on my phone, with the good ones organized into folders.
*sadly, “purebloods” have relatively few options - either refuse transfusions, or go down to a Cancun clinic for “pure” blood from unvaccinated donors, while dodging cartel gunfire.
At the height of COVID many Caribbean islands had similar requirements. At a couple islands everybody would file down the airplane stairs to the outdoor ramp area, wait in line to be temperature-tested & document-inspected by folks in bunny suits (no helmets, just masks).
If they passed muster they were allowed into the building to do immigration, bag claim, and customs inspections, then exit the airport into public.
Anybody not passing muster was held outdoors until put right back on the plane returning to the mainland. We had to plan empty seats on every flight going back because inevitably some folks would lie or present bad papers to our people on the mainland who tried to prevent them traveling pointlessly down to the island. Folks refused to believe the island authorities were that serious about COVID. They were. Oops. Live and learn.
Yep! We saw people crying at the airport. Every time we left our hotel we had to go through a temperature check. Everyone masked. Omicron really hit them hard and they were determined to keep things good after everything settled down.
We needed the card to get into restaurants for about 6 months or so. I put it in my wallet and it’s been there ever since. One MLB game required I show it. And a theater where we went to a comedy show.
I haven’t needed it for a long time, but it’s still in there with my AAA card and my health insurance card.
I have two cards. I dunno why but they both still live in my wallet. I suppose now that the furvor of getting vaccinated has died down, I can remove them and hopefully remember to take one next time I need to go. Or maybe not, they may be full.
Making a photocopy of the card reduced to (or by? I don’t remember) 66% of its original size makes for a card the size of standard business card. I did exactly that, making three copies on stiff cardstock and then, with my business card on the other side, laminating them. One lives in my wallet and the other lives on my ID card for work. I have the third in my desk at home.
I also have a photo of it on my phone as well as on the cloud.
The last time I was asked to show it was to gain entrance to the Hult Center in Eugene in November of 2021. I suspect I’ll never have to use it again.
My vaccination card was a bit too big for my wallet – I could have stuck it in there, but the topmost 1/4 inch or so would stick out and get worn away.
Instead, I took photos of it on my phone and left the card itself at home. I did bring the card with me a few times (call it five or six times) to events that advertised “vaccination card required”.
In practice, all but one of these events simply declined to check for vaccination cards, despite advertising otherwise. And even the one that ‘checked’ did so only cursorily.
I got the card. It went into my wallet. I haven’t bought a new wallet since then, so anything in there will stay there unless it really gets my attention.
I did show it to my doctor last month because she wanted to check the date of my last shot, so it worked out better than the Border’s gift card that has been in there for 6 years.
I have a copy of the card in my wallet. The original’s in my files. (Voted yes.)
NYState has an app but my phone doesn’t do apps. Nobody’s ever asked me for the thing except when I was getting boosters; but there’s other stuff in my wallet that’s unlikely to be necessary, one more bit of paper won’t hurt.
Yes. I stuck it in my purse when I got vaccinated and it’s still there (in a seldom-used pocket). Until I was digging in my purse last week looking for something, I’d forgotten about it.
If I may ask, which city? Is it a particularly health-industry oriented conference? I’m not recalling what industry you’re in, nor am I trying to pry. Just trying to understand something that feels (to me) way out of touch with the tenor of the times as I see them traveling about.
I’m going to a square dance event in July that is requiring vaccination and masking. I don’t recall if they asked for proof of vaccination. The same event did a year ago. (They accepted a pdf of my card, in advance.)
The city and state universities in NY are ending the vaccine mandate as of the last date of the current semester so it’s possible that events going on between now and then will still require vaccination.
When I got vaccinated, it was recorded in a WHO standard vaccination record, and I got an A4 (letter-sized) piece of paper, which had a QR code, which I could scan with the official app, which is/was compatible with EU.
I still have the vaccine record on my phone, but I do not carry a card. I will probably bring a paper copy the next time I fly to the U.S., just to have it.
