Poll: have you seen any presidential campaign ads?

My very first political ad for any presidential candidate just popped up for me 10 minutes ago (and it was during the Olympics, just as @bobot said). It was an ad for Kamala and was put out by “FFPAC”.

I’ve also seen the Kamala ads on the Olympics coverage on NBC. That is likely going out to the entire country, so it probably doesn’t matter what state you live in, you are likely going to see it.

We were at a brewery last night and I assume the basketball game on tv was the olympics. (The guy next to me at the bar observed that you know Canada’s basketball team because they are all white).

An ad came on for Kamala. No audio, but “a hush fell over the place” and people watched. Damn, she looked good. If political ads determine the outcome, I feel very positive. (The guy next to me said he knows nothing about politics but he’d consider registering and voting for her)

What I’ve noticed about the political ads in Michigan so far:

When Biden was still the nominee, Biden campaign ads were more or less…

  • 50% pro-Biden, touting his accomplishments thus far and what he plans to do in a second term
  • 50% anti-trump

trump campaign ads were nonexistant, as far as I noticed, at that point.

As soon as Biden dropped out and Harris became the presumptive nominee, the anti-Kamala ads began in force. trump campaign ads as far as I’ve seen have been 100% anti-Kamala; I don’t recall a single pro-trump ad yet promoting what trump plans to do in a second term.

Harris campaign ads, on the other hand, seem to be 100% pro-Kamala, touting her accomplishments and promoting what she plans to do. I don’t recall seeing anti-trump ads since she became the nominee.

In MI I’ve seen plenty of Biden ads before he dropped out and have seen plenty of Harris ads lately. Nary a one for her opponent- it’s almost like he’s spending donations on something else.

So far I’ve only seen the Harris ad that’s playing during the Olympics. No Trump ads so far. Although my TV market is guaranteed to go blue they will usually throw some Republican ads on so it doesn’t look like they are giving up. We generally get more down ballot ads than presidential ads anyway. The advantage of living in a non-battleground state.

Everyone made up their mind on Trump years ago. But Harris is at the point where she needs to be defined.

I was up in Green Bay earlier today, visiting my parents. My dad turned on the evening news…OMG. Every single ad in every single commercial break was political. It was about a 50/50 split between presidential ads (mostly Trump, some Harris), and ads for two GOP candidates for the US House seat – the state’s primary for that seat is this upcoming Tuesday.

Both Congressional candidates – Tony Wied and Roger Roth – seem to be running on the same standard MAGA platform, but Wied is endorsed by Trump, who appears in Wied’s ads. Trump literally says, “Hello, Wisconsin, this is Donald Trump, your favorite President!” Trump then goes on to say that Roth is not a MAGA supporter, and should drop out of the race.

I live in Portland, Oregon and i have seen a few Harris ads, all of them rather uplifting.

Sure, it’s understandable why the ads are pro-Harris rather than anti-trump right now. I was just reporting on the current state of political ads from Michigan.

I would slightly disagree with your statement “Everyone made up their mind on Trump years ago”, though. That may be mostly true, but voters have short memories, and I think there is a small percentage of low info, conservative-leaning voters who’ve forgotten the chaos and insanity of the trump years and may be willing to give him another chance. For their sake, I think some anti-trump ads should be added back into the mix at some point. Just simple ads showing clips of trump and some of his most insane babbling with a tag line along the lines of “do we really want 4 more years of this?”

Likewise. I don’t get any of that BS. And the Colorado mountains don’t have any bill boards or bullshit like that. And the towns have VERY strict sign codes.

Starting to see more. Hate them.

How the Hell is Kamala in any way connected to fentynal (however its spelled. I quit) deaths??? I don’t get it.

Mexicans. And Kamala is personally bringing them in through the wide open border.

It is true that a lot of fentanyl and fentanyl ingredients come from Mexico it’s obviously a more complex issue than a commercial is saying.

I’m torn on the fentanyl. Everyone dying from it has a prescription written by Dr. Lector, according to Trump.

The Biden administration has failed to bring him to justice.

“I never thought an actual person would eat my face,” sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party. “Dr. Hannibal Lector didn’t have anything to do with leopards!”

Ack! I just saw my first Trump ad on MSNBC. I had the sound off, but I could read what was being said and it’s beyond shameless:

“Donald Trump was the GREATEST President in our lifetime! Call (800) 556-2164 and Press 1, Pledge your support for President Trump TODAY!”

“We need to hear from EVERY Trump supporter TODAY!”

“President Trump’s Economy: Higher wages, low inflation, prosperity for EVERYONE!”

“We need MILLIONS of President Trump supporters to CALL NOW!”

(Here’s the part that just galls me beyond belief.)

“Democrats will manipulate election laws, censor news, and convict an innocent President to stay in power.”

“President Trump wants an OVERWHELMING victory that is TOO BIG TO RIG!”

“We MUST send Donald Trump BACK to the White House ALONG with a MAJORITY in the HOUSE and SENATE”

“MAKE AMERICA GREAT ONCE AGAIN!”

“CALL NOW! Time is running out!”

“Support President Trump!”

Offered and presumably paid for by the Trump Victory PAC.

Just… ugh.

I’m in Oregon. Near liberal Eugene.

So they are taking the subtle approach.

You can tell a professional was involved with this messaging, because they don’t outright claim that the previous election was stolen. They just make the nebulous and arguably true claim that Democrats will “manipulate election laws”. I mean, I hope that the Democrats will “manipulate” the election laws to ensure that democracy is preserved and to prevent the Republicans’ efforts to disenfranchise people.

This is also obviously true, of course Trump would want a landslide. And “TOO BIG TO RIG” certainly implies that the election was stolen, but there is no definitive claim here.

It’s interesting to see the difference between what a political advertiser will come up with, compared with the unhinged logorrhea of Trump and his toadies.

Whoever crafted it, it makes me sick how readily they use tactics to undermine confidence in the election process. This will leave lasting, significant damage. As it already has.
