Poll: We are a "religious, sober nation"-- Do you fit in?

I do all of those things several times daily, most of them simultaneously.

Watch Television: Mostly news and sports, and not that much sports.
Tell someone that you love them: I guess I’m more of a show-er than a teller.
Pray: For people who are sick, or miserable, or in dangerous situations.
Floss your teeth: Dam’ seldom. My teeth are very close set and I cut up my gums a lot when I try to floss in less than 20 minutes. (Upside: My hygienist has beautiful grey eyes, and I get to look into them for extended periods.)
Read books for entertainment: Yeah. No novels, though. A lot of my reading is “edutainment,” ie: lay science/tech stuff, pop history, like that.
Curse or swear: Sparingly, but pithily.
Exercise: Used to more than now. Prefer long brisk walks to Working It.
Think about terrorist attacks: It gets harder, I have to admit. But now and then, when I’m deep in a NYC crowd or a subway car…
Have an alcoholic drink: Don’t mind if I do.

Is there a point system? I wanna know my score.

Don’t much fit in. I live in a red state and know quite a few people who don’t fit in either:

TV: Used for watching DVDs and videos. Can’t tell you the last broadcast I watched.
Tell someone I love them: No - don’t have an SO and my family isn’t much on saying it.
Pray: Few times a month, but it’s more like concentrated vibes.
Floss: Nope.
Read: At least one book/week, usually more.
Curse: Hardly ever (few times a year).
Exercise: I walk 5-15 miles per week. Lately it’s been more at the 5 mile end of the scale.
Think about terrorist attacks: Only while I’m listening to reports about them in the news.
Have an alcoholic drink: Once a month on average…

GT

Well, as the OP, I figure I ought to give my answers:

Watch television: Yes. There are some programs I try not to miss. Other times, the tube is on merely for background noise.
Tell someone that you love them: My wife hears this all the time, and I mean it every time. I also tell my close relatives and best friends that I love them.
**Pray/b]: Not so much. More on occassion. I usually only pray if a friend and/or loved one is having a hard time, and I pray that they find comfort and strength.
Floss your teeth: Never. Fucks up my gums. I go to the Dentist 4 times a year for extra cleanings so I don’t have to floss.
Read books for entertainment: Yes. I also read a bunch of periodicals as well as the daily fishwrap.
Curse or swear: Well, when somebody is acting like a complete sumbitch, ya gots to call it as ya see it.
Exercise: I run my mouth.
Think about terrorist attacks: Only when some dipshit on TV and/or radio won’t shut up about it.
Have an alcoholic drink: Only when I’m awake :stuck_out_tongue:

Beware of Doug, I’ll try to find time to compile the results. I started this thread because I wanted to see if others thought that the linked poll results were a little, well, suspect; but, I love how the thread is developing.

TV: Yes, often. Usually Seinfeld re-runs, then movies, either cable or DVD.
Tell someone I love them: Yes, often, but only a few select individuals.
Pray: Once in a while, but only on behalf of religious people. I figure since they believe, they should get the benefit.
Floss: Nope, but frequently use Listerine.
Read: Whenever I can, but don’t have much time to read. Magazines (mainly the New Yorker) obtrude into the time when I might be reading books.
Curse: Hardly ever (few times a year).
Exercise: Quite a lot, weights three times a week and then cardio on the other two weekdays. Sometimes that gets switched around.
Think about terrorist attacks: Only while I’m listening to reports about them in the news. Agree. If I lived in NYC near Ground Zero, I might think about it more.
Have an alcoholic drink: About 10 a week.

Watch television: A couple times a week
Tell someone that you love them: Almost never
Pray: Absolutely never
Floss your teeth: Less frequently than I say ‘I love you’
Read books for entertainment: Always
Curse or swear: Very fucking often
Exercise: Not often
Think about terrorist attacks: No, why would I?
Have an alcoholic drink: never

TV: Digital cable, 222 channels…all we ever watch is Lost and news.
Tell/love: Every chance I can - several times an hour.
Pray: Well, the Red Sox won, so I believe that that is self-evident!
Floss: nope
Read: Constantly - usually several books at once
Curse: Also constantly, unfortunately
Exercise: Rarely if ever
Terrorists: only to indulge my survivalist fantasies
Booze: see Read and** Curse** above

Watch television - Every day, sometimes twice a day.
Tell someone that you love them - When I go to bed.
Pray - I pray to the martian god of vanilla flavored soap bubbles.
Floss your teeth - Can’t. Cut myself.
Read books for entertainment - Yes. All sorts of entertainment.
Curse or swear - Shit. Don’t have a fucking answer for this one.
Exercise - Walking to the fridge and back. Does that count?
Think about terrorist attacks - Yes, the ones going on in Iraq.
Have an alcoholic drink - Only when I have a babysitter.

Watch TV: A few times a year or never. I don’t even HAVE television service. I watch movies, but not television.
Tell someone that you love them: Several times a day.
Pray: Never.
Floss your teeth: Never. I brush every day but rarely floss.
Read books for entertainment: Daily.
Curse or swear: Every day.
Exercise: For the sole purpose of exercising? Rarely. I like taking walks downtown, but that’s for the sake of walking downtown, not because it’s exercise. I’m fat and complacent.
Think about terrorist attacks: I never would, if other people didn’t bring them up.
Have an alcoholic drink: Once every couple of weeks.

**Watch television ** Not often.
Tell someone that you love them Daily
Pray Pretty much daily, tho I’ve no clue to what I’m directing them. I’m pretty sure it’s not a who though.
Floss your teeth Twice a year, just like my dentist recommends. Or something
Read books for entertainment Always
Curse or swear Daily, but mostly when I’m by myself.
Exercise 5-6 times a week in a good week. 1-2 times in a bad one.
Think about terrorist attacks More worried about inmate uprisings
Have an alcoholic drink Nuh-uh.

Watch television Ohhhhhh yeah. Tons.
Tell someone that you love them Not often.
Pray Not at all.
Floss your teeth I really should, shouldn’t I?
Read books for entertainment Yeah, regularly.
Curse or swear You betcha.
Exercise What’s that?
Think about terrorist attacks No moreso than before 9/11, really.
Have an alcoholic drink No drinkin’ for me.

Metro feel that unsafe to you? I sit and read my book quite peacefully. If anything, I worry about pickpockets.

as for the list myself:Watch television: every day, quite often background noise
Tell someone that you love them: 3-6 days per week, but quite a lot on those days. Depends how much I’m with the fiance.
Pray: If you call wishing horrible retribution on selfish, dangerous drivers praying, then yes. But not really praying. Ever.
Floss your teeth Never do. Brush well, but don’t floss.
Read books for entertainment: Metro every weekday. Not much at home.
Curse or swear : Many times per day. Usually with purpose.
Exercise: I’d love to say yes. But no.
Think about terrorist attacks: Nope. Rather worry about more immediate threats. Like the bad drivers or pickpockets.
Have an alcoholic drink: 3-4 per week, I would guess.

I won’t be the one to say that Fox News has an agenda, even though I guess I just did. (Note: I’ll say that virtually all media has an agenda, whether liberal or conservative, fluffy or stuffy informative, whatever.)

Watch television It’s often on, I don’t really watch much though.
Tell someone that you love them Not currently.
Pray Nope. Well, except for praying that the bartender will pour me one on the house. Does that count?
Floss your teeth Good teeth, so only a couple of times a week max.
Read books for entertainment Yeah, when I actually have free time.
Curse or swear Abso-freakin-lutley!
Exercise More and more, but I’m still not doing what I should be.
Think about terrorist attacks Only when I see something to make me do so.
Have an alcoholic drink Um…see the bit about praying…

Watch television Two hours on Sunday evening. I love my HBO dramas.
Tell someone that you love them Everyday.
Pray Never. However, I am hoping that my Christmas tree will please some fertility god/godess out there and give me a bumper crop of Sweet 1000’s this summer, and that’s a prayer, of sorts.
Floss your teeth Only when there’s something in them.
Read books for entertainment About 45 minutes a night.
Curse or swear All the time. I’ve a real potty-mouth these days.
Exercise Never on purpose. But I don’t have any labor-saving devices, such as a gas-powered lawn mower, or a leaf blower. I tend to get quite a bit of exercise doing yard-work.
Think about terrorist attacks Sometimes I like to fantasize about how I would track down bin Laden and have a good talk with him, and how he’d feel really bad about his actions and say “sorry” to everyone.
Have an alcoholic drink One beer, every night. Loads of wine on Sundays.

Watch television: Almost never.
Tell someone that I love them: Several times a day.
Pray: Never.
**Floss: ** Several times a week.
Read for entertainment: Daily. Usually have multiple books going.
**Swear: ** Many times a day.
Exercise: Was several times a week; down to almost never this month.
Think about terrorist attacks: Only when I read about them in the paper or on the web.
Drink alcohol: Rarely; three or four times a year, but I’ll drink once or twice a day for about a week during that period.

Watch television: Regularly, but I have TiVo, so it’s heavily filtered crap-free TV. I never just “watch what’s on.” Lots of DVDs too.

Tell someone that I love them: Not very often. Personal situation is complicated; wife is living on opposite coast.

Pray: I don’t believe there’s anyone or anything to pray to, so no.

Floss: No, but since I read about clinical testing showing that rinsing with Listerine is almost as effective as flossing, I don’t feel so bad.

Read for entertainment: Constantly. I have books stashed in various locations around the house and elsewhere (in the car, at work) so I’m never more than a quick grab away from reading material.

Swear: Fuck yeah.

Exercise: 3-4 times a week.

Think about terrorist attacks: Not really.

Drink alcohol: I have a wine cellar and a liquor closet.

Masturbate like a mother fuck: Woo hoo!

Watch television: Almost never, but I do have a number of TV shows on DVD.
Tell someone that I love them: Almost never.
Pray: Never. However, I reserve the right to change my behavior should I find myself in a foxhole or equivalent circumstance.
Floss: Several times a week.
Read for entertainment: Daily.
Swear: Hell yeah.
Exercise: Formally, twice a week. I’ll generally do some stretching or really light exercise a couple of additional days.
Think about terrorist attacks: Only when I read about them in the paper or on the web.
Drink alcohol: Several times a week.

TV: As Kraftwerk once said, it’s more fun to compute. I think the last time I watched TV was the day after the elections. No wait, I watched some with my family over Thanksgiving break, but I never really do by myself. I watch movies with friends though, and sometimes by myself as well.
love: Tell parents “I love you” when they call. I’m not the type to tell friends that. And I don’t believe in romantic love.
pray: I’m pretty agnostic, but if there’s a God I want to spite him/her/it by never asking for directions. I do, however, pray Voltaire’s Prayer pretty regularly, and my enemies sure are ridiculous, but people don’t seem to notice.
floss: Try to every day, but with my schedule it’s hard to figure out where the day starts and ends. But so far I have no cavities after 20 years of junk food, so I think I’m doing fine.
read books for entertainment: Probably every day or every few days. I read the Internet for entertainment a lot, but mostly informational sites like the Straight Dope. I’m not big into literature, as I find so much of it to be pretentious rubbish, so the books I read are generally nonfiction.
swear: Fuck yeah, bitch, whenever I goddamn feel like it. Sometimes just for shits and giggles.
exercise: Sometimes I’ll shift my weight to the other buttock.
think about terrorist attacks: Occasionally. I usually worry less about death and more about what the aftermath will mean for our freedoms. You know, “give me liberty or give me death” and all that.
drink: Never; the prospect of drunkenness doesn’t really appeal to me. But I’m not a self-righteous ass about it.

As for how well the survey results fit in with my “community,” the “community” I’m around most of the time is my godless ultra-liberal college environment, so you do the math.

Watch television More like I listen to TV, but yes.
Tell someone that you love them Rarely.
Pray Never.
Floss your teeth 'bout as often as I pray.
Read books for entertainment Read for entertainment, but not generally books.
Curse or swear Og bless, yes.
Exercise Not as such
Think about terrorist attacks Rarely if ever.
Have an alcoholic drink Nope. Still have almost an entire case of … Bud Light (had to go find out) near the fridge; it’s left over from an impromptu party held at my apt. the end of October. One of the guests brought it and left it.

Watch television Couple of times per week, but only On Demand and series I’ve recorded (Huff, Dead Like Me, CSI, L&O: CI) Commercials? What’s a commercial?
Tell someone that you love them Everyday and often.
Pray Agnostic here. If I prayed it would only be to whatever power will keep my kids from completely fucking up their lives or someone else’s.
Floss your teeth About once a month, I think, and I over-compensate for not doing it more often. Ouch! Blech!
Read books for entertainment Nope, I’m addicted to crosswords. I read articles on the web, though. I can’t concentrate long enough for a whole book.
Curse or swear Like a fucking sailor. My first reaction to “On a daily basis, Americans claim they are twice as likely to say “I love you” as to say a curse word…”: Bullshit!
Exercise I get more than enough exercise at work, thank you very much.
Think about terrorist attacks Rarely if ever. What’s the point? I refuse to buy in to the rigoddamndiculous culture of fear.
Have an alcoholic drink Maybe once a week or two. I buy a six pack of beer, drink one, lose interest, and husband drinks the rest once he’s finished his own. Wine with dinner the rare times I get to actually go to a sit-down restaurant (quarterly, if that?). Don’t remember the last time I had a mixed drink or straight liquor.
