Imagine a presidential election, (not to be seen as parallel with the real one)

Bob is an absolutely reprehensible person in his personal life. Credible accusations of rape/murder and all kinds of shenanigans. He treats everybody he comes into contact with contempt or as a patsy. If he gets in he will use the office to enrich himself through various grifts.

Jim is a genuinely good person, a genuinely warmhearted public servant.

The thing is, despite your opinion on Bob’s personal traits, you think his policies are better. Not that Jim’s are atrocious, it’s just that even with Bob’s grifting factored in, Bob’s policies are a lot better. For whatever reason, you do trust Bob to enact the policies.

No 3rd party has a credible hope of winning, although some have policies you like better.

Who do you vote for?

  • No vote/3rd party. I hope Bob wins
