Seems like @Velocity gets told this a lot (or approximately once a year). Let’s help Velocity with some great comebacks.

  • “So would you.” (especially if the person is the same gender as the “if you were a (gender)”.))
  • “So would you.” (but only if the person is the same gender as the “if you were a (gender)”.))
  • “And you’d be very good-looking if you were a giraffe.”
  • “Ya know, you’d make one ugly giraffe.”
  • “You hurt my feelings” --followed by crying.
  • Other idea(s) – I shall make my own poll

  • Yes, and I’ve used it.
  • No, never heard of it

You have made a movie. Would you rather it was a box office bomb but a critical success, or did well at the box office but had negative reviews (and public opinion, like it’s the Mike Myers Cat in the Hat or something)?

  • Box office bomb but critical darling
  • Box office smash but people hate it

Do you know what these people were originally famous for? (answers below poll)

  • Joyce Brothers
  • Lisa Edelstein
  • Paris Hilton
  • Kim Kardashian
  • Sienna Miller
  • Charles Nelson Reilly
  • Nicole Ritchie
  • I don’t even know who any of these people are

Joyce Brothers was a contestant on The $64,000 Question game show in 1955.
Lisa Edelstein was a New York “Club Kid.”
Paris Hilton is the great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton, founder of Hilton Hotels.
Kim Kardashian was the stylist for her childhood friend Paris Hilton and appeared in several episodes of The Simple Life. “The sex tape” is also a valid answer.
Sienna Miller dated (and was cheated on by) Jude Law.
Charles Nelson Reilly was a stage actor who became a frequent guest on talk and game shows.
Nicole Ritchie is the adopted daughter of Lionel Ritchie.

Art versus commerce, round two:
You’re a successful actor, and can pick your projects.

  • I only do indie films and prestige dramas and stuff like that, because I am all about the art
  • I will appear in anything, regardless of how bad it is, if you pay me. Zero integrity.
  • Aside from doing artsy stuff, I will take a high-paying role in something possibly devoid of artistic merit every so often.
  • I’ll usually take whatever role comes my way, but there are projects so bad I’ll turn them down

Given the choice (let’s ignore naturalization and say your current citizenship was the result of being born where you were):

  • I am American but would prefer to have been born in some non-USA nation of my choice.
  • I am American and would still prefer to have been born in the USA.
  • I am non-American but would prefer to have been born in some other nation of my choice.
  • I am non-American and still would prefer to have been born in the nation I was born in.

For a long time I wondered how people could injury themselves with a Q-tip: if you insert it too deeply into your ear you begin to have a coughing fit, so why would you continue to push it in further and hurt yourself?

Well, as I learned just a handful of years ago, this cough is a reflex that only 2-3% of healthy people and 25% of people with chronic cough disorders including cough variant asthma have. So, there’s the Q-tip mystery solved.

Have you discovered as an adult that something about your body that you thought was normal/typical/standard issue, but turns out to be pretty uncommon in other people?

  • Yes, as an adult I previously learned that this reflex I have too is unusual
  • Yes, just right now because I have that cough reflex too!
  • Yes, as an adult I discovered a different physical thing about me is unusual
  • Not as an adult, I figured out all of my physical idiosyncrasies as a child or teen
  • Not so far
