Have you owned a vehicle from the following decades as your daily driver? (ETA: Or had use of as your daily driver even if you didn’t officially own it; I counted the car I drove in high school and part of college even though the title was in my parents’ name. It was still “my” car in the sense that I was the one who mainly drove it)

Note that “daily driver” doesn’t mean you drive it literally every day, it just means it is/was your main vehicle used for normal everyday driving, eg. commuting, shopping trips, taking the kids to school, etc. Or to put it another way, do NOT count classic/collector cars that only get driven to car shows or or for fun on the weekend or similar.

If you’re not sure about a particular car, give it your best guess.

12 million more Boomers than GenXers (1965-1980) were born in the US. While it’s no doubt a combination of reasons, which of the following things do you think most contributed to why GenX is so small?

Bear in mind that the generation immediately after GenX is 7 million people larger so it’s not just that developed societies have few kids.

The biggest reason GenX is so small is:

  • Reasonably new availability of birth control for unmarried women
  • Abortions
  • A new and large increase in working mothers without an increase in affordable childcare or widely available maternity leave (that was adapted to by the early 80s)
  • The deaths of drafted young men removed too many potential dads from the gene pool
  • Out of control inflation in the 70s and very early 80s made people have fewer kids than they really wanted
  • Increased societal acceptance of couples wanting fewer or no children
  • divorces became more socially acceptable so there were fewer babies had with inescapable spouses

There is a Milan Road in my mom’s town. I keep on saying it the Italian way, thanks mainly to my auto racing hobby (as in the Monza Circuit in the Italian city). She and the locals all say it the “American” way. This drives her crazy (heh) and leads to periodic fights between us…

Who is the better politician to advocate on behalf of feminist or minority-race issues?

  • Someone who is a minority and/or woman, because they’d know the experience firsthand
  • A white man, because he would be perceived as not having personal bias (“you’re supporting Hispanics because you’re Hispanic”)
