Imagine you’ve used a plate only for some dry piece of food, like a piece of toast or some crackers or something. At most, the food just leave some crumbs behind on the plate that can be easily brushed off. Do you wash the plate before you use it again? “Wash” can be either in the dishwasher or by hand, whichever way you’d normally wash a plate.

Think of a celebrity you despise. Imagine you see a thread on the SDMB about something that this celebrity said recently. All the participants so far in the thread are appalled by what the celebrity said. When you look into it, however, it seems to you that their words have been taken out of context. While you despise the celebrity in general, you think that, in this particular instance, they don’t really deserve the criticism they are getting. Do you defend them in the thread?

  • I do my best to persuade others that their words were taken out of context.
  • I might make a post or two, but if others don’t see it my way, I’ll drop it.
  • I wouldn’t post in the thread at all.
  • I’ll join in with the criticism even though I don’t think the celebrity deserves it.
