If somebody asks you ‘who do you think is more hateful’, do you

  • assume that by “hateful” they mean “full of hate”
  • assume that by “hateful” they mean “deserving to be hated”
  • assume that they mean “deserving to be hated because of being full of hate”
  • be unable to answer the question unless they clarify which of the above they mean, because you don’t want to assume that you know

Sorry for the lack of clarity, I meant “hateful” in the “expresses hate toward others” sense. I would have probably said something like “garners more hate” if I was asking about who receives more hate.

  • I accept your apology.
  • I am indifferent to your apology.
  • I am insulted by your apology. Pistols at dawn!

Have you ever heard anyone use the word hateful in a way that means someone is “deserving to be hated”?

  • Never, and it’s not even logical semantically
  • Nope
  • Maybe?
  • A few times
  • Regularly
  • Not only regularly but more often than to mean a person who is full of hate, actually

If the word hurtful means something which causes others to feel hurt, then shouldn’t the word hateful mean something which causes others to feel hate?

  • I hate this post

And what about indefatigable?

  • It’s a double negative: IN = not + DE = reverse of + FATGIBLE = gets tired: so the person DOES get tired.
  • No. The person never gets tired. Stop arguing.
  • I was told there would be Hindu Atheists?

And don’t even get me started about the whole flammable/inflammable thing!

You are a juror. The defendant is accused of murder. He admits to murder (but not specifying who,) there are emails showing he has admitted to murder in his messages (but never mentioning who the victims were,) there are numerous acquaintances of his who state that they have been told about his murders (but again, nobody knows who the victims are.) The prosecution cannot establish when, where, etc. but gives a broad idea, i.e., “It was most likely in California in the 1990s, probably done with this implement, probably that… etc.”
