Leavitt (“Leave it”) Funeral Home
We had a restaurant in town for a short time that served both Chinese and Mexican food. It was called “The Chexican”.
This more for the person’s name than the for the sign itself.
Passing a house for sale in Tacoma, I the realtor’s name was Ubi Faker. 'Tis true!
Looking on the internet, I discovered his middle intial is A.
Around here, Once Upon a Child is a chain of consignment used clothing stores. But I think of that connotation every time I see the name, too.
The ones around here are prominently branded “French Connection”. The FCUK bit has been very much de-emphasized.
[sub]When on earth did I hit 19 000 posts?[/sub]
Theres a garage near where I live called Foreign Used Car Parts that makes me smile every time I pass it, who cares who used them?
I just noticed fliers at work for a hair salon called Jack the Clipper. It’s kind of cute to use some word play so your name sounds like a notorious serial killer who dissected prostitutes afer slashing their throats. That’s just who I want standing around me with scissors!
Live Chickens Fresh Killed
Bunghole Liquors.

I know the name is appropriate in context, but ever since Beavis and Butthead’s Cornholio, it takes on a whole new meaning.
In these threads, I always mention the old New England brand, “B&M Baked Beans”.
The chain has Canadian locations too… I’ve seen a couple around Toronto. Guess the crappy name hasn’t stopped them from being wildly successful.
And speaking of children…
The children’s hospital in Halifax was named in honour of a major donor’s husband, the late Izaac W. Killam. Not surprisingly, most people call it the IWK Health Centre rather than the Killam.
Aw, that’s nothin’. There’s a hair place here in town called Guillotine.
I’m not sure that’s “poorly conceived,” though. The place is really busy. I went there myself. Who could resist?
I know of a funeral home called “Chambers and Grubbs”. Typically that would be the names of the founders/proprietors, but…
We have a fish store called The Wet Spot. There’s also the infamous Chinese restaurant Hung Far Low.
There’s a shoe store near us called “Barefoot”. Why would anyone shop there?
We had several stores open nearby called “Good Stuff Cheap”. A decent enough name for a discount shop, but then they had to try and get clever by opening one called “Good Ship Cheap”. Hur de dur.
The whole operation went under – serves 'em right for being nitwits.
There’s an (otherwise) excellent winery in New Zealand called “Te Mata”.
That’s Spanish for “It kills you”.
Can’t pass this thread without mentioning the Tapeworm video rental store (sadly, now closed) in my neighborhood.
Ooh just saw another one. I noticed an add for a car dealership called Just Jeeps…and More.
You can’t…I mean…ahhh never mind.
There’s an Asian fusion restaurant in town called Chine Toque. It’s a play on “toque” meaning chef’s hat, of course, but the word it’s a play on – chinetoque – is a really racist word for a Chinese person. I have no idea how it’s kept this name all this time; the decor and location suggest a classier place.
