You two go work that out via private email, o.k.?
Hey, I’m cheap but I ain’t easy!
I’d vote for one of the McMenamin’s venues–or one of the good pubs…
I’d go for the Horse Brass Pub, but it’s still a smoking establishment, and my guess is that some would want non-smoking only.
I’m up for it. Restaurant is best for me, 'cause I’m still learning all the good places.
Oddly enough, the Horse’s Ass was just the pub I had in mind but forebore to mention due to the smokiness factor. It’s a whole lot better recently, I’ve noticed, since they put in those new fans and ducting. Man, I’m a sucker for any place I can get draft cider…
Kennedy School is fun…
Sigh, we people north of Portland (meaning Seattle and surrounding area) should have a fest.
I’d come, but it’s a bit of a drive for me.
Perhaps you could carpool with other Seattlites that are interested in coming? We’d love it if we could get some of you Northerners to make an appearance.
I think I may be coming as far as Albany some time around the February/March transition. (I don’t know exact days at the moment.) If there were an event at that time, I might be able to drive the additional hour to make it.
(I’m in Medford. I drive to Roseburg for a quarterly Hot Wheels event at K-Mart, but Portland is a bit far for a special trip.)
Wow, I killed this thread.
I’ll be in Albany 2/27. My wife and I are hoping to continue up to Portland and stay there through the weekend, but we don’t have hotel reservations or anything yet (2/28 is our ten-year anniversary).
Well, congratulations! Do you need recommendations for a good place to stay?
That’d be great. We’re in a Hilton “frequent flier” program, so that’d be one direction for us to lean. I’ve always thought that McMenamins sounded cool, too.
Well, if you’re going McMenamins, the Edgefield is the one I’d say was most conducive to an important anniversary–it has the advantage of being fairly close to the airport, but it’s out the Gorge a ways in Troutdale so if you’re looking more toward being in town then Kennedy School has a lot to recommend it–something about the way the rooms still reflect the previous life as schoolrooms has that kinda naughty “we’re gettin’ away with something” feel.
On the B&B front, this place looks very promising and it’s right in short NE which is very close to a lot of good restaurants and within spitting distance of downtown, or there are other B&Bs on that site that also look nice.
If you’re looking for that very special “break the bank” stay, my parents heartily endorse the Heathman Hotel in downtown–it has pretty much everything but I suspect it’s spendy as hell because they don’t post any prices…
Any room for a noob? (Assuming I can break away from the family for the evening- or are we talking family friendly? I assumed not since we were talking “The Brass”.) Do I have to eat the Haggis or scotch eggs as some sort of initiation ritual? ich
Re: McMenamins Hotels- The Edgefield Hotel may actually be more like a Hostel, not so much a hotel. At the very LEAST, it is “European” style (very common amongst the McMenamins hotels) which means you share bathrooms. The Kennedy School is not (and is where I stayed my wedding night )
Hmmm, sounds like kismet or something! Well, if you stay at Kennedy then that would be a perfect place to hold a get together–what say you, PDX Dopers? Shall we try to herd some cats together at the end of the month?
I might be persuaded to drive up from Salem.
Okay, we have an intrepid soul from Salem–where’s the PDX locals at?
Czarcasm, susan, Shoshana, Runs With Scissors, FilmGeek? What say you guys?
Whadda we have to do to get some attention here–I know! Where are the Threadkillazsup[/sup]? Bet they can’t kill this thread, bwahahahaha!!
I wish I could, but I work that weekend.
I won’t be able to make it. Going to Reno the night of the 20th, and planning a trip to New Orleans in April. Can’t really get away between those dates.
Anyway I’ve eaten the haggis. (Most of it. I’ll finish it off for breakfast today.)
Aww, buncha party poopers you are! Let’s give this another bump and see what happens–where are the PDX people, ya can’t all be hibernating!
