Just saying.

Pardon me, Bone, but when I Google ‘DGU’ I get Death God University and Disc Golf United, both of which are way off topic. AFAICT, you first used this acronym in post #58 , but didn’t define it then.
So can you let us in on the secrets of your private language?
That was my oversight. The term is indeed an acronym for ‘Defensive Gun Use’ as Ravenman and Gray Ghost mention.
In other news, HOMEOWNER IN NORTH HARRIS COUNTY FIRES ON 4 HOME INVASION SUSPECTS, INJURES 1
Authorities say four people posing as deliverymen forced their way into the home on Lockridge and sheriff’s department investigators say the supsects held the residents at gunpoint while they robbed the home. Detectives say when the robbers made their getaway, the homeowner picked up his gun and opened fire.
The suspects ran out of the residence with the homeowner chasing them. He fired further on their vehicle.
A 17-year-old suspect was shot and sent to Conroe Regional Hospital for his injuries.
Three others got away. Authorities are searching for them in the neighborhood.
DGU with no deaths. This was Texas which allows for use of deadly force in defense of property in some circumstances. Apparently the vehicle was found with the stolen items in it as well.

In other news,Charges unlikely in concealed-carry shooting on Southwest Side: police
A man walked into a Gage Park business that included a currency exchange in the 2700 block of West 51st Street about 7 p.m. and pulled out a gun, threatened the employee behind the counter and announced a robbery, Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
A customer in the store withdrew his own weapon and fired at the suspect, Guglielmi said. Other customers were in the business at the time, but authorities could not immediately say how many.
…
Guglielmi said Gildersleeve had an extensive criminal history, including prior arrests for robbery.
The person who shot Gildersleeve has a concealed carry permit and a FOID card, Guglielmi said.
DGU involving concealed carry permit holder in Chicago. This would not have been possible just a few years ago before Moore vs. Madigan.

Yes but you must admit that we do have a plethora of idiots working for the press; more than any other place outside Washington DC.
What the actual case was is that he had a concealed carry permit which “allowed” him to walk outside his home and (in theory) into his neighbors home with a loaded weapon. And yes, there are some who think he should have been charged for going to the rescue of the kid.
Agree completely on the idiocy and ignorance of most reporters. In PA, you don’t need any kind of license to buy or own a gun, and you don’t need to register any guns with the state. But I see news reports all the time about a gun being or not being registered to a person in PA. Always wrong and always misleading.
To clarify your second sentence, you also don’t need a carry license (officially, a License To Carry Firearms in PA) to carry outside of your home, so long as you are open carrying and not in a vehicle. If you wish to carry concealed, or carry in a vehicle, you need a LTCF. So, the guy could have legally walked to his neighbor’s house without a LTCF if he had the gun unconcealed, as in a hip holster or in his hand. If he had it concealed, he would have needed a LTCF.
In any event, what is he supposed to be charged with?

In other news, Market employees shoot, kill masked robbers in Reading
When police arrived on scene, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them died at the scene; the other died a short time later at Reading Hospital, police said. Reading police said it looks as though three masked men entered the market. One of them was armed with a pistol, which he fired inside the market, and another man could be seen pointing a stun gun at one of the employees, according to police, who did not know if the third man was armed. At the time of the incident, police said there were two market employees in the store and at least one customer. Sometime during the robbery, police said both employees pulled out their own guns and fired several shots at the masked men, striking two of the three.
3 vs 2 and the two prevail.

In other news, Employee fires shot at man attempting to rob landscaping business
According to Northern Regional police Captain John Sicilia, an A. Gleason Landscape Supplies & Services employee was welding in an open-door garage when the suspect, holding a handgun, walked in and demanded the employee take him to the safe. The employee told the man there wasn’t a safe in the building, so the suspect demanded the employee’s wallet.
When the employee reached for his wallet, he pulled out a handgun and fired a shot. The suspect was not hit and he ran out of the garage.
“Well I think it was just coincidental that he lawfully carried a firearm and just happened to have it on him this evening,” Sicilia said.
Just a coincidence. Right - when someone is prepared to defend themselves and does so, I attribute that to planning rather than coincidence. DGU with no deaths.
T-Mobile store employee with concealed weapon shoots two would-be armed robbers

One employee went into the back to call for help, while a second pulled out his concealed weapon and fired at the robbers, hitting one in the groin and arm and the other in the abdomen and arm.

In other news, Halloween home invasion foiled
At approximately 6:27 p.m. Saturday, H-HPD officers responded to a 911 call in the 200 block of North 4th Street. The homeowner reported that four black males knocked on the door and said, “trick-or-treat.”
The homeowner opened the door to hand out the candy and one of the intruders brandished a shotgun in the homeowner’s face. The others forced their way inside the house.
Green reported that the husband was sitting in a recliner as the intruders entered the house. Two of the subjects pointed their weapons at the man’s wife. The husband had a weapon close to him as the men attempted to rob them. The husband pulled the weapon from the chair and fired a single shot.
The shot, said Green, missed the subjects, striking the ceiling.
All four of the males fled the house. As they were running away, they dropped two weapons – a shotgun and a rifle. H-WHPD officers recovered the guns.
A whole night dedicated to opening your door to strangers in masks. This is why we can’t have nice things.

In other news, Clerk shoots attempted robber in Newport News
Muneer Alshter said the worker is his cousin. “He put a gun in his face and he come around the cash register and he grabbed some stuff and he walked out,” he said.
Alshter said the gunman walked out when he saw a customer coming to the door.
When the customer left, he said the robber came back, and that is when the clerk shot him.
There are no plans to charge the clerk with the shooting at this time. Police say the suspect is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Not very smart for the robber to return.
Man Defends Himself with Own Gun
Mobile Police say a robbery suspect was shot and killed at Twin Oaks Apartments on Old Shell Road Monday night. According to MPD Spokesperson Charlette Solis, a man was unloading groceries from his car around 8 pm, when a man with a gun walked up to him. The victim says the man took his wallet. It was then the victim managed to grab his own pistol, in a jacket pocket. The victim shot the gun, while still in his pocket, and hit the suspect in the chest. The suspect ran across the parking lot.
Data shows that criminals commit less crime after they’ve been shot.
Does one often not use one’s “own gun”? :dubious:
Generally. But there are the occasional stories where someone is disarmed and then shot with their own weapon. I thought the headline was a bit ungainly too.

In other news, Carter Co. homeowner finds, shoots burglary suspect
“He was coming out of my garage and he was coming at me and I asked him to stop and he didn’t,” Stanfield said.
Stanfield grabbed a .22 caliber rifle from his truck, hoping to scare off the suspect.
His first thought was to not use the gun.
“Try to get him to stop,” Stanfield said. “And he just wouldn’t. He wouldn’t stop.”
Stanfield fired a warning shot, but he says that didn’t stop 55-year-old Tommy Robbins.
That is when Stanfield shot Robbins one time in the right arm.
“I just did what I had to do to get him to stop,” Stanfield said. “You hate to do it anytime.”
Stanfield said Robbins then got into his car and tried to back out of the driveway. But, instead of making an escape, Robbins got his car stuck in a ditch.
“Mr. Stanfield shot some rounds into his vehicle to disable it,” Carter County Sheriff Milton Anthony said. “The suspect jumped back out of the vehicle and started after the victim, Mr. Stanfield again. He (Stanfield) told him to get on the ground he will shoot him again.”
Advancing on a person after they have already shot you once is a terrible tactical move. Then again, burglary isn’t so wise either. DGU with no deaths.

In other news, Homeowner catches alleged car thief hiding in home :
Reports said the man attempted to hideout in a home that didn’t belong to him.
“My dogs started getting energetic,” Steve Dildine said. “When I went to my bedroom, he was on his hands and knees.”
The homeowner told KOCO 5 that the man told him he was trying to hide from police who were outside the home looking for him.
When Dildine saw the man, he grabbed his gun and pointed it at the 35-year-old suspect.
He said he managed to get one of Ryan’s hands behind his back. With his free hand, he moved him towards the front door.
“I told him to keep his hands where I could see him.”
Dildine said the Ryan kept telling him not to shoot him.
“I didn’t want to,” he said. “All I said was you got to give this up.”
Once outside, police said Ryan ran, trying to get away, but cops were able to place him in custody.
Car thief picked the wrong house to hide in. DGU with no shots fired.
