It is when the instigator / aggressor / intruder is stopped with no harm to the residents.

This line of thought is valid only if we all fervently believe that if the deceased had had no gun, there would have been no incident at all.
Are homeowners with a gun generally better shooters than crooks?

In other news, Suspect arrested in Dec 16 attempted robbery at doctor’s office
Mario Chism, 43, was arrested on Dec. 30 for an attempted robbery at a doctor’s office near Charleston Boulevard and Rancho Drive. A female suspect was also involved, but was shot by an employee and later died of her injuries.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Police say the two suspects broke into the office and forced a doctor, an employee and a patient into one of the rooms. Metro says the suspects pistol-whipped the doctor.
The employee, however, got loose, located a gun and shot the suspects as they ran down a flight of stairs.
Emergency responders took the doctor to the hospital. The doctor’s injuries are not considered life threatening. Neither the employee who shot the intruders nor the patient were injured.
DGU with 1 death. Carrying on your person may be a better option than having a firearm stored someplace else.

In other news, Dallas woman scares off brazen burglar with gunshot
Miller knew something was wrong. First, she called her husband on his cell. Then, she grabbed her gun, locked herself in her bathroom, and called 911.
…
“He kicked the bathroom door once, and I fired the shot,” she said.
She put a bullet right through the middle of the door, but Miller was prepared to unload if he kept coming.
“If he was coming in, I was going to clear the magazine and protect myself,” the woman said.
…
Dallas police arrived quickly, but the suspect ran off. However, he left behind footprints on several doors.
DGU with no deaths. There’s video of the person breaking into the house and running off as well. Almost assuredly bad things were avoided here.

In other news, Deputies: 2 home invasion suspects shot in Alamance County; 4 face charges
Four men face charges following a weekend home burglary in which two of the suspects were shot, deputies said.
…
Alamance County deputies said someone within the home fired multiple shots at the suspects after they unlawfully entered the home. Marshall and Woods were found at the hospital, while Pitt was found hiding in an apartment closet about a block away on Lakeside Avenue, deputies said.
DGU with no deaths. Four people attempt home invasion and are repelled by one resident with a shotgun. Two burglars made their way to a hospital, while another was found hiding in a closet in a nearby apartment.
Wonder why the resident seems to have left the scene? That was the implication I got.
Bad guys robbing bad guys?
Still a good shoot IMO.
If the resident is a bad guy, this shooting should not add to his trouble. IMO
“A shotgun that the victim or victims used to defend themselves was recovered, deputies said.”
I think they are saying nothing that would identify the victim(s).
It sounds in most of these reports that the police take your gun if you shoot someone. What if someone’s father or brother comes back looking for you?

Burglary suspect, Eric Smith, was shot around 2 p.m. at 1234 Universal Drive in southeast Richland County, sheriff’s department spokesman Curtis Wilson said.
The homeowner told investigators that he got his gun and fired shots after the suspect, who had failed to get in the front door, went around to the rear door and tried to gain entrance. Smith was hit in the lower body and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Wilson said.
DGU with no deaths.
And in still more news, Neighbor Stops Home Invaders by Shooting One and Holding Other at Gunpoint
Two men breaking into a family’s home while they were out of town were caught by a neighbor. Now, one of them is in jail while the other recovers from a gunshot wound. That’s according to West Virginia State Police.
…
Troopers say Justin Blair and Jimmy Walker kicked in the door – causing an alarm to go off. They say the homeowner received the alert and called a neighbor to go check it out.
The neighbor caught the men and shot Walker in the abdomen. He was able to hold both men at gunpoint until police arrived.
Blair was placed in handcuffs and put into a cruiser, but while the trooper was attending to Walker – Blair kicked out the window and escaped. He was later found, arrested and taken to the hospital. He has been released and is now in jail.
2v1 and the one prevailed. Another DGU with no deaths.
Need a floor ring or attaches leg cuffs in the police cars around there.

Pardon?
A ring & chain or leg irons or some quick way to lock a perp to the car. Would save on window replacement also.
Just an idea.
It does read kinda strange as I look at the post now. I knew what I meant. LOL
And call the cops to come pick them up.

The family was downstairs when they heard someone walking around upstairs. One person went upstairs to confront who was there. A scuffle ensued and the homeowner brought out a handgun.

In still other news, Columbia man scares off home intruder with gun
A man was sleeping in the home when his dogs started barking and woke him up, according to Latisha Stroer with the Columbia Police Department.
The man found the front door of his home open and went back to his room to get his gun, Stroer said.
ABC 17 News talked to the homeowner Monday who did not want to be identified, but said that is when he saw a man standing near his front door.
“I grabbed my pistol and I came to the front door, and he was still standing near my front door,” he said. “At that time I put one round into the ground.”
The homeowner said the man quickly ran away and he called 911. But he does not know how the intruder opened the door.
DGU with no injuries. I advise against warning shots in general.
I can’t shoot him unless he is inside the house.

Inside the house or out isn’t the controlling factor. Reasonable fear of great bodily harm is the controlling factor. This can occur if an assailant is either inside or outside. If an assailant is forcibly inside, then most states have a presumption of reasonable fear of great bodily harm.
