The planet where two individuals were able to defend themselves from armed robbery. That only the armed robber was injured is great. Even better would be if there was no armed robbery but alas, that was not the case.
Please explain how that’s relevant. Is there a point you are trying to make beyond the obvious casual racism?
And in other news, HCSO: Homeowner shoots suspect twice during home invasion
At that time, an unknown suspect broke into the home. However, the homeowner was present at the time, and grabbed his gun.
Deputies said the homeowner confronted the suspect and shot him twice.
When deputies responded to the scene, the suspect was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
DGU with no deaths.
This was a very dangerous guy. Raped and killed a 69 year old woman last summer. Escapes jail with a shank. Then forces his way into this family’s home.
Glad the homeowner had a gun.

They said they believe the man who was shot and killed is Warren County jail escapee Rafael McCloud.
Police said they responded to a burglary call around 7 a.m. They said the burglary took a man, his wife, and a 4-year-old child hostage at gunpoint. At some point there was an altercation and one of the adults shot McCloud. The man was injured during the struggle, but his wife and child were not hurt.
McCloud escaped the Warren County Jail on March 2. Sheriff Martin Pace said the 33-year-old held an employee hostage with a shank, took his pants and jacket.
That was my point. The causal racism in which a black teenager is shot and killed and the shooter is lauded is entirely due to the color of his skin.

How do you draw this conclusion? You must be a wizard at connect-the-dots.
The robber was armed, and shot several times at his would-be victims.

Who is doing the lauding entirely due to the color of a person’s skin? This is a bold claim - do you have any evidence?
Are you confident you’ve identified the correct source of the casual racism?
I went digging on the Internet and found pictures of his funeral announcement.
And of course the color the skin of shooting victims is entirely relevant.

So, it wasn’t apparent what color his skin was, yet you took it upon yourself to discover it, then conclude that this information is relevant, but you haven’t established how. Brilliant! I ask again:

In other news, Armed Residents Save Elderly Man’s Life After Hearing Cries For Help
Childress said when he opened the door he heard the same terrifying words. Duncan said she grabbed her purse with her gun inside and took off to find the man. “As I got closer I realized that there is this elderly gentleman laying on the ground with a younger man on top of him with a knife,” said Duncan. “I see blood and this big old knife.”
Duncan said the man was trying to stab another man around 90-years-old. She said she told him to stop, but he did not listen.
“Finally I said, ‘I’m getting ready to shoot you’ and then he stopped and he looked at me and he tossed the knife away,” said Duncan. Her friend, Childress, who is a former law enforcement officer showed up right behind her.
“I said ‘put your arms out, put your legs out and stay right where you are, do not move,’” said Childress. While Childress pointed his gun at the man Duncan called 911.
Childress said he is convinced that if Duncan had not shown up when she did, the elderly man would have been killed and credits being armed with saving the man’s life.
DGU with no deaths. 2 gray(ish) haired folks defended a 90 year old from an attacker with a knife.
Gray_Ghost:
Related to Orwell’s point, this robbery and murder happened Sunday night at a pizza joint near closing time in a suburb of Houston. FTA: 19 year old Peter Mielke was an employee of the restaurant. As an aside, how goddamned hard is it to get the guy’s name right? He’s dead, and the copyeditor gives so few cares that they spell his last name two different ways in the same 500 word story? Sigh.
Anyway, just because you comply, doesn’t mean you’re not still going to get shot. It’s not rational for the crook to turn an armed robbery into a capital murder case, but if they were rational people, they wouldn’t be stickup men.
Returning to this case, they caught the guy they like for the murder. His sister claims that he shot Mr Mielke because he couldn’t open the cash register drawer, and that the robber says it was Mielke’s fault he got shot. (He also has been in and out of jail as a felon since at least the age of 18, and she still bought him a pistol, which is another complaint.)
That’s the kind of mindset you’re up against, should you encounter an armed robber.
Wow. This one’s currently on the front page of CNN.com :
Hostages fight back
Police: Couple kill murder suspect in their bathroom
(Murder suspect escaped from jail, used a knife to take a couple and their five-year-old hostage in their own home. The wife was able to get out of the bathroom they were being held in, got hold of a handgun, shot the guy–then after she freed her husband, he shot the guy as well, not sure what exactly was up with that–with the end result that the alleged murderer and home-invading hostage taker, Rafael McCloud, wound up dead.)

In other news, BPD: Resident shoots home invader in south Bakersfield
An alarm company notified emergency dispatchers that something was amiss inside the home. As officers arrived, representatives with the alarm company said they could hear shots fired inside the home, Sgt. Gary Carruesco said.
As officers arrived and turned onto the street, they saw a man throw a handgun to the ground, Carruesco reported. Officers discovered the man had been shot several times and wounded. He was taken to Kern Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition, authorities said.
The man on the street corner was one of two who burst into the home wearing masks and brandishing guns, police said. The homeowner armed himself and fired shots at the intruders. It was not immediately clear if the intruders exchanged gunfire with the homeowner as well, Carruesco said.
DGU with no deaths.

In other news, Homeowner shoots 2 suspected burglars, 1 to death, in Fair Oaks
Between 2 and 2:30 a.m., a man in his 60s found two people inside his house, in the 6900 block of Laurel Oak Way, department spokesman Jason Ramos said.
That man took out a handgun and shot one of the intruders, who then ran out the front door, Ramos said. The assailant later showed up to a hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Deputies were sent to the medical facility and confirmed he was one of the Laurel Oak Way suspects.
After the homeowner shot the second intruder, he left his house to call for help, Ramos said.
2vs1 and the one prevailed. DGU with one death and 1 injured robber.

In other news, Sheriff says fatal shooting from inside home looks like self-defense
The 911 center received a call at about 11:39 p.m. Monday stating that someone was outside a house shooting through the door and bullets were going into the house.
Donini said the caller later said the man outside with the gun had been shot and needed help.
Deputies, detectives and emergency medical services responded and found a man lying in the front yard. The Scioto County coroner pronounced Carpenter dead at the scene.
The sheriff says the case appears to be one of self-defense “with the homeowner protecting his family,” according to the release.
DGU with one death. 911 call is useful, but it’s not going to stop the person shooting into your house very quickly.
This seems to be another one of those neutral gun news of the day stories, since a gun was part of the initial problem to begin with.
Actually this probably would have been a much better situation if no guns were involved at all.
I think what you meant to say is that this would have been a much better situation if the deceased had stayed home and watched TV instead of going to somebody else’s house and opening fire through the door. Absent a gun, he was still clearly an indiscriminately violent criminal. Would it make you happier if he torched the house while the inhabitants were asleep?
