A few years ago I shot a (later determined to be rabid) fox, killing it with a single shotgun blast.
A neighbor had warned me about the fox sitting in our yard. She walked over later and said, “so, that fox got away, huh?”
Her husband has a .22 and lousy eyesight. When he has to shoot problem wildlife it takes him dozens of shots. When she heard a single bang she assumed my target took off.
DGU with no injuries (other than being punched in the face). The homeowner presumably missed, but the intruders ran. Without the shotgun 2 men vs. a mom and teenage daughter could have ended much worse.
I’m just a boy from the suburbs. I’ve never been anywhere near a coyote. Where do you live? I know they attack livestock–do you have animals on your property? Just curious as to why coyotes are filthy and need killin’.
I can tell you that hunters don’t like coyotes. They kill lots of rabbits, pheasants, deer (young ones) and other game animals. Coyotes are considered to be varmints.
DGU with one death. Apparently the 25 year old attacker was looking for drugs. Good shooting from the 80 year old and little chance she’d stand a chance against the 25 year old in a purely physical match up.
DGU with no injuries. I personally don’t think shooting at a fleeing vehicle is a wise thing to do, but the fact pattern would dictate the best course of action.
Rural middle of nowhere high sierra desert. Wife raises exotic sheep and wildlife and fowl. My best and damn near only friends are my 4 wiener dogs.
Coyotes have cost me more money in losses to stock and heartbreak than I can tell you. Killed way too many valuable sheep and other that were “pets” more-or-less. Wife unhappy.
One tried to get The First Dog. I got lucky and put one through his neck at about 100 yards. The wife skinned him and he is hanging on the back of a chair in the house. I named him Gary. Very smelly, filthy animals. Huge stink in the skinning process. (She did a rattle snake for me, too. A real trooper!)
Another one bit my favorite dog on the ass when we were out trolling the desert. Damn lucky I didn’t lose two of them that day. She still has a puncture scar on her cute little black ass. Wasn’t carrying that day, so that bastard went unpunished.
They are a horrible, miserable pest animal and need to be shot on sight, no questions asked. If I saw a mother nursing her pups, I’d shoot her first, then every little one in the head afterword. Or toss them in the river, what with all the shortage of .22lr ammo.
DGU with no deaths. Two shots an only a leg hit. I wonder if the intruder was fully in the house or had just started coming in. A shirtless, yelling, non-stealth home intrusion sounds like a person not with full command of their mental faculties.
DGU with one death. Holding 3 people at gun point is much more difficult when they are armed. It looks like the prohibition on arms for this felon didn’t work very well.
They were “walking his daughter toward the home” and he shot at them? Either they were further apart than it sounds or there is a man with a high level of confidence in his aim.
DGU with one death. Folks often think that an attacker will have the advantage because they will have drawn first, but often it’s training, practice, and willingness to defend yourself that wins the day.
Well, yes. I’m just noting that if I was shooting in the direction of my daughter I’d have to be **extremely **sure that she wasn’t going to accidentally end up in the line of fire. The fact that this turned out fine may indicate that the father was an excellent shot - or that he (and his wife, who was shooting too) got lucky. Hard to tell without more details.
