aceplace57:
I can’t tell from the video if the bad guy’s finger was outside the trigger guard. I guess the clerk thought so. Otherwise he wouldn’t have grabbed the barrel. Still seems like a very risky move.
It’s is a positive gun story. Bad guy flees. No shots fired. The robber put innocent customers and the clerk at risk.
That was pretty ballsy of the clerk. From viewing the video, it looked to me that there were at least two moments where the robber still had control of the gun but the clerk was holding the barrel into his own torso. (Gun experts would have to say whether the robber could actually have fired under those circumstances.) The police said afterwards that the gun was not loaded but the clerk could not have known this.
It’s a positive outcome, but don’t most experts say to give them the money and keep your life? Better to be a live clerk than a dead hero. This similar story from just a month ago did not have such a positive outcome: Person Shot While Trying to Grab Gun During Robbery Attempt at 7-Eleven
I’ll carry the money to his car for him.

In other news, Suspected robber shot in holdup remains in hospital
Police said Thomas Joyner entered the Metro PCS store on Blanding Boulevard near 103rd Street about 8 p.m. pulled a gun on the clerk. The employee Joyner money, then pulled his own gun, pushed the suspect’s gun to the side and fired at him, the report said. The employee told police the two exchanged gunfire and the suspect fell, but got up and left the store.
Joyner showed up later Saturday night at a free-standing emergency room on 103rd Street, where he was taken to Orange Park Medical Center. As of Monday, he remains under guard while recovering from a gunshot wound.
DGU with no deaths. It looks like there were some errant rounds but only the robber was hit.

In other news,Salon employee pulls a gun on man connected to 5 Dayton robberies
Bobby Hoblit–the owner of the Sundeck Tanning Salon–says at the time of the robbery his girlfriend was working the counter. That’s when he says a man walked in, bought a ring with a handful of change and then demanded money instead he got something else.
“As soon as Megan my girlfriend opened the drawer he said, ‘I don’t want any trouble, just give me all the money,’” Hoblit said. “At that point my girlfriend’s instincts kicked in and we had a pistol underneath and she grabbed the pistol, pointed it right at his face and said, ‘I don’t think you’re going to get that money today.’”
Dayton Police believe the man who tried to rob the Sundeck Tanning Salon on Patterson Road Friday is the same man who hit this Dairy Queen on Smithville Road 10 minutes before also this Subway on Wilmington Avenue after leaving Sundeck.
DGU with no injuries. Looking at the targets of the robberies I am thinking the guy was not all that bright.

In other news,Police: Pike County woman shot, killed estranged husband
A Pike County woman shot and killed her estranged husband Monday morning after he entered her home in violation of a court protection order, police said.
Pamela Smith of Phelps told 911 dispatchers that she shot Terry Briggs, 37, also of Phelps, according to Kentucky State Police in Pikeville. Briggs died at the scene.
DGU with one death. That piece of paper the protection order was printed on was less effective than the handgun.
This is the kind of story where I really applaud the gun owner (and I rarely do). I believe that our society has failed abused women, and despite court orders there is inadequate oversight of these dangerous men. If I were her I would’ve done the same thing (i.e., bought gun, used it).

Unless she called him up, told him she had rethought things and loved him, and blew him away as he came in the front door. :dubious:
Well, there’s a thought. That would be a great movie plot.
Yes, and she gets all his shit, instead of half.
No way would I visit Mrs. Plant (v.2.0) in the house I paid for if she had papers to keep me away.

In other news, Burglary suspect caught in act, held at gunpoint by victim’s son, police say
The armed man, who was not identified, told deputies that he was at his home next door when he saw Harrison pull into his mother’s driveway. He didn’t recognize the car or the driver and knew his mother wasn’t home.
When he went outside to investigate, he saw Harrison kick open the front door of his mother’s home, deputies said. He went back into his house and grabbed his handgun.
He said he found Harrison walking down a hallway inside his mother’s home.
“He ordered the offender out of the residence and told him to (lie) on the ground,” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said. “This is where deputies found him when they arrived.”
DGU with no injuries. Another good neighbor - though this one happens to be the son as well.

Man, I know I would be nervous holding a gun when the cops showed up, but good for this guy, his mom and the community. That’s an upright citizen with the neck tattoo and heroin paraphernalia in the newspaper article, for sure.
I’m thinking there are three likely results of ordering a burglar (at gunpoint) to lie down and wait for the cops: a) he will comply, as happened here; b) he will run away; or c) he will attack you. “A” is good. You’d have to let him run away under “B”. You’d be justified in shooting him if “C”. High stress situation, for sure.

DGU with no injuries. Another case of a good neighbor helping out. It seems he was immediately arrested after police arrived and were able to locate him.

In other news, REPEAT BURGLAR CAUGHT IN THE ACT, HELD BY RESIDENT AT GUNPOINT
Surveillance video from February shows 32-year-old Artur Sandrosyan getting his hands on what he can inside a parking garage. Residents later discovered he stole about $2,000 worth of tools. They had a feeling he’d be back.
“We were determined to catch this guy,” said resident Jun Rosario.
They got their chance last week, when residents heard a car alarm. Rosario’s neighbor Darwin Serenio pulled up the security cameras on his smartphone.
“This time I’m pretty much sure this is the same guy, because when I see the profile, it looks the same. The jacket he’s wearing, the hat and the height, it’s the same guy,” Serenio described.
Serenio called Rosario, who grabbed his gun and chased after the repeat burglar.
“I ran after him. I told him to stop or I will shoot,” Rosario said. “He did not resist so I told him to stay down, and I backed up a little bit to grab my zip ties.”
DGU with no injuries. Guy clearly underestimated the resolve of his victims.

In other news, 17-year old shot and killed an Ohio County man, allegedly defending his father
The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office said the victim had been shot by a 17-year-old. Allegedly, the victim was shot by the juvenile while defending his father from Marrett, who was attacking him with a wood saw.
DGU with one death. Reporting on this is light possibly due to the shooter being a minor. It’s also worth noting that the story characterizes the attacker as the “victim”. In any event, the attacker brought an axe to a gun fight.
In other news, Woman shoots, kills man who kicked in front door, police say
The homeowner told police she heard loud banging and knocking on her front door. A police news release said the woman got her gun because she could not see who it was at the door and was scared for her life.

Police said the man, whose name has not been released, was a friend of a relative and had been at the home earlier. He had been asked to leave, because the homeowner said he had illegal narcotics on him.
DGU with one death. 1 violent dude vs. a disabled grandmother. This article is also quite poor - the only indication that the shooting was fatal is in the title, not the body of the article itself.

In other news, Homeowner says husband shot two teenagers breaking into house
LMPD says one juvenile male victim was found on Schneiter Avenue, and another was discovered one street over on Oleanda Avenue.
“Pop, pop, pop! And there was a pause, and then, pop, pop!” said neighbor Charles Graham. “And then a couple seconds later, he was running down the street saying his brother got shot.”
According to the woman who lives in the house where the shooting happened, the two boys tried to break in, not realizing her husband was there.
While inside, she says the teenagers killed the family dog, and at some point, her husband shot them.
DGU with no deaths. A string of burglaries won’t necessarily be treated as high profile but whoever was perpetrating them probably got the message now. Too bad the dog had to die in the process.
In other news, Gun-wielding woman scares off intruders, Eastlake police say
The woman was asleep in the house just before 8:30 a.m. when she heard banging on the front and back doors. She then heard male voices in the house, police said.
The woman, a guest of the homeowner, confronted the trio with a pistol. The men ran out the back door and left in a car, police said.
The woman got the car’s license plate number and reported it to police. Willoughby Hills officers spotted the car a short time later stopped it. Kozlevchar, Ludvik and the teen were arrested without incident.
DGU with no injuries. 3v1 and the one prevailed - also being a good witness.

In other news,Erie homeowner attacked by Brandi Shakir’s alleged abductor has died
The Associated Press says the Erie County Coroner has identified her as Kum Miller, 58, and she died just before noon Saturday. An autopsy is scheduled Monday. Miller’s husband, 51, was also injured but not as severely as his wife.
The original criminal complaint filed against Johnson, 25, alleged that he struck the female homeowner of the Crescent Drive home with a crowbar six times, then stabbed her with a box cutter.
…
Police say Brandi Shakir, 23, of Oakwood, whom Johnson, her ex-boyfriend, allegedly abducted Monday from her mother’s home, is now in a Cleveland hospital.
Shakir was staying at her mother’s home in Oakwood Village. She was home alone Monday when a neighbor reported a fire at the home.
…
Police say Johnson had Shakir with him when he broke into the Crescent Drive home and put her in the home’s basement.
Johnson then began scuffling with the two homeowners.
Two neighbors heard the screams and rushed over and tried to subdue Johnson. In the end, one of them shot Johnson in the shoulder and leg. Johnson was caught after running down a ravine towards the Erie Yacht Club on the nearby Ohio River.
DGU with no deaths from the gunfire. Unfortunately one of the attacker’s victims later died from their injuries. Apparently the attacker beat and kidnapped an ex girlfriend, invaded a house and beat the homeowners. Neighbors responded and was able to drive away the attacker. Other good neighbors right there, though unfortunately not soon enough.

In other news, Intruder injured after Fredonia shooting
Fredonia police report the incident, which occurred around 2:22 a.m., began when a male and female subject entered the enclosed porch of the home and began pounding on the front door. The homeowner, who was armed with a legally owned handgun, opened the door and the two subjects forced their way into the house. Following a brief exchange of words, the homeowner, who was carrying the gun, repeatedly told the two to leave the house.
Upon leaving, the homeowner went to his front steps in an attempt to get vehicle information. Upon seeing the homeowner, the driver stopped the vehicle in the road, left the car and began charging and threatening the homeowner. The homeowner fired several rounds, striking the male subject who went back to his vehicle and fled the scene.
DGU with no deaths. No idea why a person would open the door to someone in the middle of the night but there you have it.
Mowed down a filthy coyote yesterday. Fired about 12 rounds and hit it at least 8 times. That’s my positive gun news.
Damn coyotes.
Eight round to kill him? That is as bad as me shooting the copperhead with a pistol.
