Positive things about Trump being reelected

Trump can’t run again. Unless of course he changes the Constitution.

Trump will avoid taking any blame for problems. If inflation goes up his fans will blame it on the Democrats. Just like his first term, they will insist against all evidence that he kept all of his promises, that he made the economy great and secured the border. Look at the way they talk about his first term. They will willingly vote to amend the Constitution to keep him in power.

There’s glory for you!
I’ve seen everything from ‘They accomplish what they can given reality’ (my position) to ‘They’re just Republican lite’ and that’s just here.

President Don Jr.? With dad as VP?

Trump is never going to accept a position subordinate to anyone, and certainly not either of his adult sons of whom he doesn’t even seem to have a very favorable opinion.

There might, might be a slim chance that blue cities will commit to seriously build more housing in an attempt to welcome refugees from deep red regions and a fear that this is the only viable path towards not getting a shellacking during redistricting.

Liberals are – or at least strive to be – empirically grounded. So while losing our illusions is painful, it’s better to see the world as it really is.

Last week, we learned that the rule of law and democratic norms barely register with most voters as a priority. We learned that what we see as a given demographic group’s self-interest is not how many in that group see it. We learned that the right-wing media ecosystem is remarkably impervious. We learned that a majority of voters in an open society can be persuaded to bow to one-man rule. We learned that common sense and decency are not enough.

This newfound clarity needs to inform what we do next.

Remember when during his first round, the media and fellow politicians kept saying something along the lines of “this is where we see Trump become presidential”? Positive thing this go round is everyone knows that isn’t possible so we aren’t hearing that tired refrain.

Oh, no…the media is going to fall all over themselves trying to find some vaguely ‘presidential’ act that they can gleefully clap and applaud to prove that things are not as dire as they seem. And you know why? Because…well, I’ll let the Sage Master of Cynicism tell it:

“Believe me.”

It’s a big country. Someone must have said it. But I do not remember.

They said it when he launched that pointless cruise missile strike on Syria, and when health officials were encouraging him to take action on the COVID-19 pandemic, and just generally whenever it seemed like he had the opportunity to do something other than make the worst possible choice. You don’t remember because the media enthusiasm never lasted more than a day or two once it was clear that he wasn’t actually going to listen to any experts or make sensible decisions, but like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football, they lived in eternal hope that this time it would work out.

That is my point: They no longer are saying it. It never came true in Trump v1 and it definitely will not in Trump v2. We all know what we are getting and it ain’t presidential.

Oh, you sweet, innocent child. The mainstream (i.e. corporate) media doesn’t care about whether he will actually be presidential; they just want to be seen currying favor, trying desperately to find some way of squaring the circle of having some scant vestiges of journalistic integrity while still not expressing uninterrupted criticism. Jeff Bezos is going to tell William Lewis to say some nice things about Trump, Joe and Mika are going to get a buzz in their ear to say how good Trump is behaving today by not twittering a shit-fest of racist blather, and even MSNBC will try to give a show of being ‘even-handed’ by saying how good it is that he hasn’t threatened nuclear apocalypse in over a week! Individual journalists will say ‘unkind’ things about Trump, and will be permitted to in order to show that we do actually have freedom of press (at least, for now) but in the net the media companies will aspire to neutrality in order to not be banned from White House pressers and not invited to the White House Easter Egg Hunt.

Stop harshing my mellow! I was trying to remain “positive”! :face_vomiting:

Sorry; the media is doing great and Trump is a pariah! Have a gummy and a dram of Irish whiskey.

Very good point. It’s frequently been noted that every president has been awed by the responsibility and the gravity of the office and has acted accordingly, even an unruly Texas dumbass like Bush the Younger. But Trump is immune to any such insight, blocked both by his pathological narcissism and astonishingly low intelligence. He’ll continue to act as the impetuous asshole he really is, and for the next four years, that will be the world’s image of America.

Yes, but imagine:
Donald Jr. can run. Twice. Then Eric can run. It could well be Trumps to 2044 or beyond-
the horror

Don Jr. is no Kim Jong-Un.

Only a few positives I consider…

  1. I dont have to worry about rushing out and buying guns anytime soon. I actually didnt have that concern should VP Harris had won the election but there would have been a Covid era like toilet paper rush by the right wing to collect them and Id be stuck with only a bunch of P38’s and musket rifles or something. Now guns will be aplenty and I can take my time to purchase them (also prices won’t increase by much, if at all)

  2. I actually do like his CCW Reciprocity idea (just threw up a little to admit this).

  3. It forced me to get a Playstation 5 waaaay earlier than I planned to, to avoid the tariff hike.

  4. Should free and fair elections actually be allowed by 2026, I expect a Democratic blue wave.

Sorry, but there are no positive things about Trump being re-elected. That I can think of.
