Upsides to the Trump Presidency! Here are mine, what are yours?

Well… can’t sit around moping forever about the election. I’m an American, I’ve got to look forward to the positives and the opportunities!

So … let’s look on the bright side, what are the potential benefits or positives of a Trump Presidency?

1: Lower ammo and gun prices now that all that panicked “They’re going to take away our guns!” buying is over.

2: Maximum news infotainment. Current events will be like a death defying carnival ride for the foreseeable future. I do not need HBO.

3: No loud, burly trans men busting into my men’s bathroom safe space and frightening or molesting me.

4: We now have two successive first ladies in Michelle Obama and Melania Trump who both stand 5’11" tall. I will point my daughter to this fact the next time she complains about being 5’11".

5: Saying “The President of the United States, Donald Trump” out loud to myself might being me back to church at some point as there have to be powers abroad in the Universe beyond the mundane limits we can perceive.

What are your positive points for the Trump Presidency?

The comedy will be better. I thought George W. Bush was hilariously bad at Presdienting. Bush was infinitely more capable than the current President-elect. This guy will provide endless fodder for comedians over the next few years.

I’m also looking forward to the wall along the Mexican border.

Just kidding.

In addition to the comedy, there will likely be some really great protest music. Also some really shitty protest music, but that goes without saying.

  1. More people, especially young people, paying attention to politics and voting.

  2. A very realistic chance of the House of Representatives flipping to the Democrats in 2018.

  3. The Democrats realizing that becoming the party of upper-middle-class technocrats is not a winning strategy.

  4. The Republicans actually having to put up and govern.

  1. Lower taxes and spending on infrastructure.

  2. Elizabeth Warren might run for President in 2020.

I had not thought about your #4. It’s actually quite brilliant. "Ok ! Here’s the wheel Toonces it’s all yours."

Flims and TV too. The Daily show didn’t really become partisan until after Kerry lost the 2004 election.

I’m sure there will be several liberal TV shows, comedy TV shows as well as full length movies about the Trump era.

Here is my list:

  1. The republicans realize in order to win the presidency, they have to care about the economic interests of working class people. They can win the house, senate and state races by being nakedly hostile to working class people, but the presidency is harder w/o this. If Trump had only done as well with working class whites as Romney did, then Hillary would’ve carried PA, WI, MI, etc.

  2. Lots of liberals and minorities mobilize together, and become more active in their communities and active in politics in response to Trump.

  3. Assuming they manage to keep Trump from doing anything truly destructive (causing a global economic collapse or a war), this will be pretty entertaining

  4. 2020 ‘may’ be a sweep year for the democrats. Since 2020 is a year of census, that means they can reverse the gerrymandering done in 2010.

  5. People new to politics have only known Bush, Obama & Trump. Incompetent republican, classy competent democracy, incompetent republican. This will ideally solidify the millennials away from the GOP. But who knows.

Donald Trump’s sex scandals should sure be interesting. Especially when Evangelicals try to defend him. If Melania ever decides to divorce him & write I book I’d line up to buy it; assuming Trump doesn’t manage to outbid every publishing house on the planet.

I don’t feel QUITE so bad about our current ‘right-wing’ government in Australia. That being said, the ultra-right has been gloating about Trump’s win, and that’s given me a few episodes of severe heartburn.

Apart from that, it’ll be the comedy.

Even a few Republican congressmen will be forced to come to their senses and obstruct catastrophic foolishness.

I’ve learned an ENORMOUS amount about how our government works.

It’ll be fun going to protests and chanting, “TEAR DOWN THE WALL”.

Yup. I took those required political science classes long ago, keep up with the news & the Early Republic is a favorite reading topic.

Fool that I am, I had forgotten exactly how Electoral votes are assigned. Each state gets one per Senator & one per Representative. There are states with three or four votes–that is, they have only one or two Representatives. Texas has 38 votes.

Concerning population, Harris County (Houston) has more residents than about 30 states. Yes, we went heavily Democratic this time–more than usual.

And I’m curious to learn more. Hey, either of us probably knows more about government than our President Elect! We ought to feel proud. And nervous…

I don’t see how the Christian Right or Evangicals will ever again be able to claim the moral high ground, after supporting Don the Con. I don’t see that anyone need take their, “but this offends my deeply held beliefs”, bullshit seriously, ever again.

They’ve spent their capital, revealed their true colours, and will be seen as much less important, in future, as a result.

That’s gotta be a win, I think!

I mentioned this before, but the Hillary presidency that could have been will always be better than the Hillary presidency we would have gotten and infinitely better than whatever the fuck is happening now.

My taxes will probably go down. Yay me.

If you’ve got stocks, they should do quite well for a few years*. There’s already too much money at the top chasing too few viable investments, so once Trump and Ryan collaborate on some ginormous tax cuts for the rich, there’ll be even more money chasing the same stocks, and driving prices up.

I’m quite serious about this, btw.
*Eventually we’ll have a 2008 repeat, but first they’ve got to repeal Dodd-Frank, and it should take a few years more to create, inflate, and pop the bogus bubble investments that will cause the Trump Administration’s 2008 re-enactment.

I am certain she had to sign a non-disclosure contract in order to get married. If she ever talks, the lawsuit will be great!

Agreed. Now that they have come out and said God accomplishes great (republican) things with flawed men, that argument can be used to excuse anyone for anything. Any politician can now claim God’s blessing just by saying so. How will evangelicals differentiate among leaders now? (besides seeing an r or d by their name)

  1. We will get at least one, possibly two, conservatives on the Supreme Court, and several more in federal judgeships.

  2. Let me get back to you.
