Upsides to the Trump Presidency! Here are mine, what are yours?

Sweet! Fingers crossed, you may finally get that coathanger abortion you’ve always dreamed of.

What other investments may boom? Real estate rental properties?

Assuming you wanted to actually find a useful use for the trillions in idle capital sitting around earth, what would it be? Infrastructure, science, renewable energy? Or are there better investments to create jobs and have a positive social impact? Africa seems like it’d be a good place to invest. Lots of untapped labor and resources.

In an economy with too little capital, supply side tax cuts are probably a good idea but I’m obviously not an economist. But today there is so much idle capital that people invest billions or trillions in government bonds that pay nothing. More capital won’t fix that.

2018 has gone from looking like a catastrophe in the making for Democrats to a hopeful chance of people actually showing up and being heard.

I know this thread is meant to be satire/sarcasm, but on a genuine note, I hope this election shakes up polling and forces pollsters to be more accurate in the future. I also hope it causes the media to stop proclaiming a winner 2 months before Election Day. The lessons of Dewey Defeats Truman apparently needed to be relearned from scratch.

Seriously, I hope a lot of people who didn’t bother to vote learned their lesson.

I’ll tell you how - they’ll point to the anti-abortion Supreme Court justices appointed by Trump and claim them as their victory.

As for myself, I’ve become too comfortable and set in my ways, and need a change in my life. This election outcome gave me a motivation to find a new job (preferably outside the US) and start a new life.

Just how conservative is Ivanka, anyway? Are her views on abortion known?

(seriously, who do you think he’s going to nominate?)

  1. A media that is no longer supine and takes seriously its job.
  2. The possibility of a Supreme Court that takes the constitution seriously for the first time in my life.

That the people who voted for him get their wishes. Sometimes it’s important to truly get what you want.

They wished for their racist, xenophobic viewpoint to become legitimized. I don’t see how this is a good thing.

The religious right showed its collective ass and we can ignore their morality henceforth.

My taxes will go down as I was unsuccessful in voting against my own best interests.

My stocks have already skyrocketed.

The Republican party disarray is exacerbated.

I don’t know what the Ivanka reference is supposed to be. Here is Trump’s allegedly final list of nominees.

Shodan

Because occasionally, that’s the only way people learn. I know many are skeptical here, but I think that once some of them are confronted with the reality of their beliefs, the cold hard truth will be a wake-up call of self-examination. Oh, maybe not to the vast majority, but enough to make a difference. And I think it will be in areas that will be startling, like wondering where in the hell those promised factory job returns are? That will certainly affect their bottom line. Then once that happens, a slightly more accurate picture will develop of what goes on in politics, versus the Evil Demoncrats trying to railroad the Moral Republicans.

Further, when you support something racist, it’s kind of shocking to find how quickly that can be used against you, as evidenced by how many disgruntled young, white men seem to populate the internet. Now, a lot don’t take notice that their attitudes are largely responsible for their own plight. However, some are and are changing / growing accordingly to rectify their situations and improve their lot in life. Personally, I feel on some level that the same thing will happen here. Their new messiah won’t deliver and they’ll be as marginalized (or more) than before because now some will be outed as racist douche bags? Well, perhaps it’s time to rethink things before I lose my mortgage.

Just MHO.

Donald probably had her sign an iron-clad prenup. He was apparently burned badly by Ivana–who divorced him for screwing around with Marla Maples. He dumped Marla just before the pre-nup would increase her take–she had to settle for a paltry three mil…

Problem is, almost all of that can eventually be blamed by them on:

  1. The obstructionist Democrats, or

  2. Trump wavering from his Trump values or not being Trump enough. Already there are Trump supporters attacking Trump for not upholding his promises. Should the alt-right, etc., fail to get what they want out of a Trump presidency, they may conclude that Trump wasn’t Trumpish enough and they need someone even *more *truly Trumpish in order to make things happen as desired. Someone who will ***really ***build a wall. Someone who will ***really ***deport 11 million illegal immigrants. Someone who will ***really ***be genuinely alt-right down to the core. Etc. Etc.

Maybe, just maybe, we will finally be rid of Hillary Clinton.

It’s awesome to be white and male again. Which is like winning a lottery you never wanted to win in the first fucking place.

To the second point, I agree, but on the first? Not with the Trump supporters that I know personally. The reason that is, is because after many long hours of trying to explain obstructionism and why Obama, say, didn’t withdraw our troops like he promised, they do not understand even the most rudimentary basics of how government works. Now I’m not saying they won’t parrot the Fox News line if it is spoon fed to them, but they’re very much about results and don’t give a damn about reasons. Trump said he’ll bring back their jobs and they’ll be pissed off that he didn’t deliver. Which will turn him back into the elitist he really is, with a heaping helping dose of being just another Lying Wealthy McLiar politico.

< shrug >

Maybe that’ll just sow seeds of distrust in the process in general, but in my experience, it can cause folks to question why they were so easily duped and makes them hate the source of self-reflection. I mean, we’ve had tons of threads on how they didn’t appreciate being condescended to. What do you think will happen when they realize that this savior was just pandering for votes, or worse yet, his ego, and nothing he swore by will be forthcoming unless he gains something from it?

Not pretty, man, but crucial.

ETA: Also, in my area, I bet you couldn’t find more than a handful of people who already know he’s walking back most of his campaign platform. They keep up with all this that little, and if it doesn’t validate their worldview and end up on Facebook, they’re unaware. It really will be sad when his dishonesty (like him not really being pro-choice) comes to light for them.

The number of new synonyms to the word unprecedented will grow as journalist will tire of saying that word in every Trump story.
