Y’know, I watched it a lot. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single episode. Or even a good line.
As opposed to Seinfeld, where I could probably recreate entire episodes if I were stuck in a bank vault all weekend (see, there’s this timelock…).
A local channel is running Seinfeld before the evening news here, and the wife (who wasn’t a fan back in the day) and I are cracking up at least twice each half hour. It’s hard not to telegraph what’s about to happen.
God, I hope no network execs of my grandkids’ generation try to “re-imagine” that show.
Jeez, I remember the dog, that’s about it. Maybe a vague realization that the chick had a baby at one point. I never like Reiser much.
FUTURE JERRY: Well what’s the show about?
FUTURE GEORGE: It’s about something.
FUTURE JERRY: With a story?
FUTURE GEORGE: Yeah, with a story.
FUTURE JERRY: Nobody’s needed a story since 2005.
FUTURE GEORGE: But this will be different. No rich bitches. No furry hillbillies. No phony drama that’s just there to keep butts in the seats until the commercials. Just regular people living their lives, like regular cops solving crimes, or regular doctors treating illnesses. No psychics. No aliens. Just something real.
FUTURE JERRY: It’ll never sell.
It’s funny, all these revival shows (Full House, Roseanne, Will and Grace, and possibly Mad About You), are all shows that I doubt I got through a full episode through on their first run. And I used to watch a LOT of TV.
To me it was such tripe, no interest at all in a return. I thought Reiser and Hunt were completely without charm.
Jamie was adorable in the first few seasons. The season finale actually addressed the complaint that in the later seasons she was almost completely unlikable (“I’m not nice? Who has time to be nice?”). Remember that Hunt won multiple Emmys for the role, and I’ll never forget Candice Bergen not hearing she won once because she’d been so sure Hunt was a lock she didn’t even listen to their category.
I liked the show a lot, and still have fond memories of favorite episodes. A few:
When Jamie’s sister Lisa took Murray for a walk and came back with the wrong dog.
When Jamie has a fight with Lisa over Lisa’s shrink blaming Jamie for Lisa’s problems, leaving Paul to deal with Lisa alone.
The Thanksgiving ep with all the turkeys.
The ep where Paul’s father is in the hospital after a mild heart attack and we first meet his mother (the scene is Paul’s old room is hilarious).
Both of Cyndi Lauper’s appearances as Ira’s long-lost wife, Marianne Lugasso (later the Countess). Lauper won an Emmy, and was nominated both times.
The ep where they’re supposed to shoot 15 minutes of their lives uninterrupted for a documentary and chaos ensues.
What does the Mother say, “Give it a rest!” ?
Clamenza!

After reading all these responses, I really hope this happens! I used to watch it all the time, but haven’t seen it since it went off the air. It would kinda be like catching up with old friends.
“My god, can’t you skip a night?”
My favorite was “Eighteen years in this room and I’ve never made it past this point, I’m begging you.”
I watched and liked it back in the day, but I watched a couple episodes recently and it does not hold up well.
Except that Helen Hunt was a World Class Cutie.
mmm
You don’t remember the brother (cousin?) who looked like a Klingon?
Cousin Ira looks like a Klingon? :dubious:
Hey dere, ho dere, regarding his marriage to Helen Hunt seems like they dated for about 10-20 times longer than the marriage wound up lasting.
I remember thinking how ridiculous it was when Paul was freaking out about finding his passport (among other issues) before a trip to Canada. Pre-9/11 twas silly, anyway.
That thanksgiving ep where they kept having to replace the turkey was a good one.
Show got stupid when Jamie started working in politics in the last few years. So much so I didn’t even bother watching in the last year when it got moved to a different timeslot with other shows I watched on other networks. Did see the finale, but didn’t like it much. Probably up there with the original Roseanne on the “bad finale” scale (IMO).
I was going to say that it jumped the shark with the “virtual reality” episode with Christie Brinkley, but I looked it up and that was only in Season 2!
I like some of the stuff that Paul Reiser has been in lately, like “Red Oaks” and “Suck It Gary!”. I’m not sure I need more “Mad About You”, though.
I liked and watched the original, for a few seasons. As is common, it didn’t so much jump the shark as run out of ideas/freshness. I lost interest and stopped watching. I can’t imagine a reboot is going to spark my interest.
Rather like Big Bang Theory. I used to watch it religiously. But now I am tired of it.
I like ice cream, but I can’t eat it at every meal. YMMV.

Shodan
I’m very surprised by the number of people who like the turkey episode. I hated it!
It was overly contrived and very unsophisticated humor. More like an I Love Lucy episode than a MAY one.
