Every news report I’ve heard says they will charge him as an adult. I’ve also heard that, at least for now, he’s being held in a juvenile facility.
We would be lucky if this sort of thing happened as rarely as once a year.
Brace yourselves for another round of thoughts and prayers and no real change.
People who are not familiar with gunfire in a real world context often expect shots to sound resonant and dramatic like they do in movies and television. In reality, gunshots often sound flat, like someone slapping a bag of water. And frankly, most people aren’t expecting to have to identify the sound of gunfire in the halls of a school even though this has come to occur in American schools with disturbing regularity.
Stranger
Where did the shooting occur? I’m wondering because the two student victims were the same age and both teachers taught math.
When I went to school (more recently than stone tablets but still in the age of blackboards & chalk) we had classes per wing - all math classes were in one section of the school, all science were in another, same for humanities & foreign languages, etc. That was also true more recently when I attended back to school nights for my kids, at a different school than I went to which leads me to believe it’s a common practice. I believe I read he had left a math (algegra?) class so it makes sense early in the period & was trying to get back into that class so it makes sense he was in the math wing.
Exactly. FWIW, I frequently associate the sound of someone striking a hammer on the other side of a wall or around the corner at a certain distance as very similar to the sound of the AR-15’s military cousins, the M-16 and M-4.
And I would like to think that, although school shootings are all too common, construction and maintenance around and in schools is still much more common. When you hear hoofbeats, you think horses, not zebras.
Construction and maintenance are the horses, school shootings are the zebra. Me? When I go by a construction site, my first thought is “Someone’s shooting an assault rifle!” But it’s not at all surprising to me that a discerning adult who hasn’t been around small arms fire would assume that gunfire heard through a wall and down the hallway is actually something more mundane.
I know why he did it. He had access to the weapon. Fail!
He was raised by idiots. Fail!
His mental health was ignored, not noticed or no one gave a shit. Fail!
The PTB missed the clues, the trail was not followed. It fell through the cracks. Fail!
The school knew this, about this particular student. No one put him in lock down, at school. With no access to other areas of the school. Fail!
Could’ve been caught. Now 4 are dead. 9 are injured. Fail!
I’m very sure at least 12 kids got sent home that very day for dress code violations or the sniffles.
May 2023: FBI question Colt and his dad about online threats.
Christmas 2023: dad buys Colt the future murder weapon.
Unbelievable! If this case goes as another recent one went, dear ole’ dad is going to end up in prison. Maybe they can share a jail cell?
I agree and always do when things like this happen.
I’ve heard that too. Those pigs are VERY hard to kill, and often don’t taste good to humans. They also cause a lot of damage in their non-native areas.
What are the native areas for feral pigs?
I don’t know. I have a feeling Georgia’s gun laws are much more lenient than Michigan. I’m totally just guessing.
It was the suspect’s first full day in a new school and he was only enrolled in the school district 2 weeks ago. It seems likely he knew none of the victims.
I have no idea what that father does or if he hunts pigs but they are a problem in Georgia.
They are all over the south.
You DO NOT need ARs for pigs. I promise.
Not necessary. And especially no 14yo needs one or to be at a pig hunt. Ever. Ever.
The Father is arrested. It was a gift. The gun.My god. A freakin’ gift.
Who buys a baby an AR?
The father has been arrested. Four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children.
Here’s a link to the CNN story on that.
Good! Good! GOOD!
Gotta teach 'em to quit raising terrorists.
