Hope it’s better than the original. Maybe they should get George R. R. Martin involved…
With O’Connell and Rhys-Davies involved, it sounds more like a sequel than a full reboot, which would be less than ideal, since it would be harder to remove the baggage of the Kromaggs and the treatment of Wade (and Sabrina Lloyd behind the scenes). But, on the other hand, with Rhys-Davies involved that suggests that we’d get some closure on what the deal with the Arturos was.
I would love a reboot that takes the alternate history a little more seriously. It doesn’t have to be “dark and gritty”. Just the timelines are a little more thought out and interesting.
Maybe two or three part episodes that let the alternates get explored a bit more.
I think it’d be easy to get rid of them. They are slightly different versions of themselves who also invented Sliding, and never crossed with the others at all. It’s an easy way to retcon away anything they don’t want in the new series.
I’d rather they start “new” like this than pick up wherever it was they left off. I never saw the last season or two. The last one I clearly remember before it got too hard to find it on tv was not long after the Arturo guesswork. But it has been a while so maybe I saw more than that.
I loved this show so much when it first aired. I spent a lot of my early internet time on rec.tv.sliders, or whatever it was called.
I really kind of hope that something comes of this speculation! I think the villain of the proposed new series should be Evil Wade. The experiments that the Kromaggs did on her left her seriously unbalanced, and she’s out to take revenge on the idiots who sucked her into sliding in the first place. I don’t even know if Sabrina Lloyd is acting anymore – I’m not seeing any credits for her past 2013 – but I think it would be fun to see our formerly adorable ingenue come back really dark and troubled. I wouldn’t bring the Kromaggs themselves back, though. Maybe she polished them off first before drawing a bead on our heroes.
