A couple days ago I was composing a reply to the Tribune Font thread in MPSIMS. My reply consisted of three paragraphs. When I went to preview my reply, the post showed up strangely: Only two paragraphs appeared, and the second paragraph was a combination of my second and third paragraphs. The first paragraph was fine.
It was the first time that has happened to me, and it hasn’t happened since. Anyone else have that happen to them?
The only times that ever happens to me are when I’m trying to post with people yammering at me at this end, so I lose track of what exactly I’m copy and pasting, so I ended up with either extra copies of things, or things missing.
Did you then scroll down from the Preview to go and see what the Reply window itself looked like, whether the paragraphs were scrambled there, too?
Shore did. It was fine. I had no distractions, I wasn’t copying and pasting, and my brain was working (finally!)… it was really weird.
I even clicked Preview Reply a few more times, each time not changing anything. It still showed up funny. I guess it’s only happened to me, huh?
Thanks for the reply, BTW.
Strangeness. The preview feature has a few strange quirks, I mean features, in it. I think we are just going to have to live with it for a while. Sorry 'bout that.
Like my new sig, huh? Thanks, UncleBeer.
Argh, it happened again. I thought it might just be a preview bug, so I went ahead and submitted the post. Unfortunately, it posted as it previewed. See it here: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=658185
I gotta go, darn it. I’ll continue this later. I do have a screenshot of this bug, if anyone’s interested.
I thought I knew what might be happening, but didn’t have anything to really go on. It caught UncleBeer in one of the Dallas DoperFest threads. The problem happens when you don’t put quotes around the URL.
I’ll see if I can reproduce what happens. You type something like this:
And you got something like this:
But you wanted this:
The difference is that I type the links with quotes like this:
For some reason, it can’t find the end of one URL and takes in everything until the next URL.
Jim
Hi JimB! Yeah, that’s pretty much what I thought too. I never added the quotation marks before, and it never came up until I actually had two url tags in one post.
Now if only to find a way to make myself remember to add the quotation marks…
Thanks very much for your help.
