Problem with quoting

I’m still running into an intermittant problem with quoting.

Occasionally, I will be reading through a thread and hitting multiquote as usual. When I open the reply window, the quotes will not show up. Even if I refresh or reclick the multiquote buttons. Using single quote does not work either.

Oddly, if I open a different thread and open a reply window to that thread, I will get the comment that there are quotes from a different thread I can include or deselect. I can then pull up the quotes in that reply window, and paste them to the thread I was trying to put them in.

I do not know what is causing this glitch. I have not observed any patterns to help ID when and why it occurs. The work around is cumbersome but it is working, with the alternate being to manually quote like in days of yore.

I’m curious if others are seeing the problem, and if anyone has any insight. It is not occurring in every thread, just sporadically.

I know, I know, we are upgrading the servers. Where are we in the status of that effort?

Server upgrade is finished. To the best of my knowledge nothing else is scheduled; we’re done.

Dunno why you are having this problem; there shouldn’t be anything adverse going on at this point.

Just happened again in this thread. Selected a couple quotes, opened the reply window, they weren’t visible. Opened here to get the quotes to appear (not visible now, but were).

Something similar of late.

I have to use the Backspace key (not a good idea) just to grab what I created and re-enter it into the comment/editing box. I’ve actually had to write comments in Words, copy to the comment/editing box then then submit.

For what it’s worth, I followed these steps on a handful of threads in a couple different forums and was not able to replicate. I only multi-quoted two or three posts at a time, do you usually grab many more than that?

Well, at least I tried. Hopefully someone with admin privileges is doing similar testing, rather than just telling you that you shouldn’t be having the problem. What awful customer service that would be!

Well, it was a reply to my suggestion that the ongoing server upgrade was responsible.

Five separate quotes, with one containing two links.

ETA upon preview. All quotes and my response remain intact within preview.

ETA2. All remain AOK with multiple previews.

I wonder if the addition of external URL links might be causing this problem. I’ve only experienced this using external links in a post.

ETA3. Or Tuba’s comment the server upgrade has been completed may mean we have stable platform once again. Hmmm.

Duckster, I appreciate the effort. Unfortunately, this is an intermittent problem, so the success of a few attempts in one thread does not demonstrate it is not still happening. It has occurred for me as recently as yesterday. It doesn’t happen every thread.

I know at least one other person observed this occurring. It did come up in a previous thread related to the server issues, but I was unable to locate that thread (not that I searched very hard). At that time, I could hit refresh and it would reload the edit window, and would include the quoted material. Now refresh does not help for me. The other poster described the same behavior.

People testing this should note what browser(s) they use. It’s entirely possible that this only occurs in particular individual browsers.
