Posting pic instructions, s'il vous plait (encore!)

Seen posts about this before, but never really took note.
This time I will.
(Couldn’t find any sticky about it.)

One cannot post pics on the SDMB.

One may link to pix outside, certainly. However, if they’re NSFW we require a two-click link to prevent people inadvertently seeing something objectionable.

When you say linking to pix outside, you mean basically this?

(well, technically an article - just tryng to find anything with a pic in it)

Yes, that would be fine.

But for placing a picture directly in a post? It’s not done here.

Apologies - I’m wording this poorly - how could I set up a link where it would show just the photo of Ken, instead of the whole page?
At least I know how to load Ken into my own files - it’s the getting Ken from my files into a link is what I should have originally asked.

Create an account on an image hosting site like photobucket or whatever, then link to that. I use postimage, which is free. For example:

Challenge Accepted!

EDIT: With postimage, when you choose to share a photo, choose the “Direct Link” link.

I find that photobucket (esp.), flickr and imgur links are unreliable. OTOH, postimage seems to be the most reliable for me across browsers and hardware types.

Now, once you have a link there are two options:

Copy and paste the link onto the line by itself. The board software will auto add the link. Be careful if the link ends in a “)” and fix if needed after preview.

Select some text and click on the icon of the globe with a chain. In the box that pops up paste the link. Click “OK”. Double check the link works right after preview.

If the link is NSFW, put it into a spoiler box using the words “spoiler” “/spoiler” in brackets before and after, resp. Like this [spoilerx] … [/spoilerx] without the x’s.

I have found that on most sites, you can right-click on an image (or tap and hold the image if you’re on a phone) and get the link to it that way. Here’s the image of Ken Bone from the article:

Some sites disable right-clicking, but this will work a majority of the time.

Great, thanks, everyone.

I’ve been using browsers that disable the disabling of right clicks for quite some time. Didn’t think about that problem.
