Posting under the [mild] influence?

I find that if I’m gonna post, especially if I’m gonna start a thread [gasp!] , I am almost certainly under the influence. [Alcohol. Maker’s Mark and Diet Squirt or Fresca] I am -way- past legal age and am NOT encouraging drinking, especially not under age drinking. However, a post of mine that actually got a comment instead of being ignored as usual, noted that I had poor sentence structure. Hah! I thought, it’s because I’m somewhat looped.

Now, to the crux of the question. Do you post while under the influence? [Hopefully, not while at work. If so, you have a problem] . Would you say the majority of your posts are while so affected? How about starting threads? Are you more likely to start a thread while inebriated?

A couple of whiskey sour’s (made w/ diet sodas) and a few posts to sdmb finish off my week nicely. A good way to unwind and relax.

Well, currently I am under the influence of two pints of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale with dinner (fish and chips at my favorite pub) and two pours of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year old bourbon. I won’t necessarily start threads while influenced, but I am very likely to reply to threads that way!

Silenus… I swear we are twins, separated at birth.
Debate. Southern Culture on the Skids. And a fine brew followed with a bourbon chaser. (Though I do prefer the porter to the Pale Ale).

The Pale Ale flows through my veins. The Porter ain’t bad, but nothing beats the overwhelming crush of Cascade hops.

Little Debbie, Little Debbie…!

Brother… that hurts. For it is not the hop that is the essence of life ( and beer), nay, it is the malt. The thick roasty-toasty malt.

And while I have not yet sampled this 10 y.o. Rip Van Winkle of which you speak, I’d be hard pressed to abandon the dulcet taste tones of Maker’s Mark.

“All I want is just one more oatmeal pie”.
[Oh, and from some other post… I think it was you that indicated that you were completely devoted to the wife type person. As am I.] Now, if I can just convince you to relinquish this foolish flirtation with hops and embrace the malt.

You put Fresca in Maker’s Mark? Reprehensible!

Me, I’m drinking a gigantic bottle of Spaten. No, not drunk yet, drat.

Any bourbon produced by the Weller Company is ambrosia.

Maker’s Mark is good…this stuff is great. Even the wife loves it.

Hops are Good. Worship the Hops.

Does the Maker’s Mark cut the aftertaste of the Fresca?

I had a cocktail earlier and often do in the evenings.

I know, Sausage Creature, I know. I find I just can’t enjoy -any- whiskey totally straight, neat or rocks. I gotta have mix. If mix it be… then sour mix. Fresca or Diet Squirt are quite passable sour mixes.
And I know I can taste the diff between Makers’ and mix versus Jack Daniels and mix versus Knob Creek and mix and (hate to admit it… forgive me) Kessler’s and mix.
Each one has its own flavors and complements the mix in different ways. Except the Kessler’s…which, er um, ahhhhhh, doesn’t really complement anything.

Whiskey Sour’s are just what I drink, if and or when I do imbibe. If I’m going to have a beer, it will be a porter if at all possible. Though a Spaten Optimator or a Paulaner Salvator is mighty fine, if available.

Is the Spaten you are having full of delicious malty goodness?

Since from your post, I assume you -are- under the mild influence while posting. And if you are not “of age”, please refrain from further indulgences in alcohol until such time as you can do so legally. (for the lawyer types).

Nah - I’m 24  Not that my age stopped me back in the day, you understand. I don’t consider myself a connoiseurtrix (yes, I just made that up) of any liquor but found Woodford Reserve to be a quite tasty bourbon. My husband bought me a small travel bottle on a whim and now I would like a fifth for the liquor cabinet. Very warming. And the Spaten is so delicious, I don’t know how I went so long without having one (I am having an Optimator). I’m glad it’s beer season again for me!

LOL at Kessler’s. That stuff is nasssty! My stepmonster used to feed my dad that stuff. Hint: don’t let a woman who has been in AA for 15 years buy your liqour. It’s just not good.

Heeeyy, I think I’m gettin’ tipsy!

Maker’s Mark and Fresca?!! For shame!

Bourbon and Branch for me…or neat…or on the rocks. It’s too good to pollute with bleh Fresca.

Posting - either starting or replying? Yes, almost always.

lee if find I do not care for the taste of Fresca or Diet Squirt by itself. However, as I kinda allude to in above, I think (personal preference) that the slight sour in either is a good complement to a fine bourbon/sour mash.

Perhaps a “real” sour mix might suit you better. It’s a matter of individual tastes, that’s why so many kinds of drinks.

Optimator = good!

I love me a good German beer. Especially a doppel-bock! Yummy.

Sausage Creature I know. Egads! I drank Kesslers!!! I think the big selling point for it is that it comes in plastic bottles, so the heavily influenced (shall we say) can drop the bottle without breaking it.

Up until I had -some- Kesslers, I would only admit to Jim Beam. In what passed for my supposed college days, any brownish alcohol was fair game.
My wife almost never drinks. But even she will occasionally sip at my Makers and sour (ok, Maker’s and Fresca or Diet Squirt).

Fritz Fritz Fritz I know where you are coming from. I used to know people that would drink Chivas and coke. I thought “what a waste”. But I’ve since come to realize that one can actually tell the differences even in a mix.

[hijack of my own thread, kinda.] I don’t know anyone that drinks Chivas anymore. I must travel in different circles now [/hijack]

If I’m posting on a Friday or Saturday night, then I’m going to be at least somewhat under the influence. Seagrams and 7 for me as I needed quite a bit of liquor for tonight as well as the draft tomorrow. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a fantastic brew, and MM is usually my whiskey of choice.

No offense meant. I’ve been a long-time Bourbon drinker, and I just can’t imagine mixing Maker’s Mark or my favourite, Jim Beam, especially with Fresca.

Here’s mud in yer eye! <sipping a vodka orange juice>

[sub]Chivas and coke? bleh[/sub]

Careful Dopers, you don’t want to get too much blood in your alcohol stream.

Fritz , no offense taken.

We be mellow here. Virtual “Cheers” as it were. We pick and choose who we talk to and our drink. And it cheaper and less dangerous than driving to/from a bar. The booze is reasonably priced and not watered down ( no more than we want it watered down, that is ) .

Probably should open a new thread. For those that mix, what do they mix with? I’ll get to that sometime later.

Back to your original question, some of my most brilliant and most inspired writing (not on this board, not by a long shot) has been penned while under the influence. I’ve found that my best ideas and inspirations are created while under the influence, but the final polish, and the actual decision to publish must be performed in the sober light of day.
