How do threads get killed? Not looking for a clever reply; I want to know why threads die. Who decides when a thread needs to die?
Do you mean locked or just die out?
A thread may be locked if Manny or Chronos decide it is not appropriate. They also have the option to lock or move a thread if (for example) it belongs in ‘About this Message Board’ and is posted in ‘GQ’ Cough.
Threads in GQ may also be locked or moved if they turn into a debate. They just die out when people loose interest in the topic.
The day before yesterday, there was a thread on playing free chess games online. I contributed a post to it myself. That evening, my son asked me the very same question. I told him it was answered on the SDMB and went looking for the thread.
Much to my astonishment, it had disappeared! It was missing from the search of my username. It was missing from the search of keyword “chess.” WTF? Did they censor it out of existence?
I noticed the same thing a few days ago with a thread about the He-man theme song, which I posted to. It seems to have just disappeared–not in GQ, not in other forums, not found when I search for my user-name… Odd.
Both of those threads had to go to the Great Thread Collection in the Sky, on account of they were originated by someone who had forfeited his status as our guest by virtue of his behavior.
Since the OP here is asked and answered, I’m going to go ahead and close this thread.
