In 2010, with zero forethought, I came up with Haiku Madness, a game I predicted would “sweep the nation”. I actually expected it to die after a dozen or so posts.
I dunno about the nation being swept, but I’m a little proud that the thread is approaching 10,000 replies and 800,000 views.
mmm
My all-time favorite post remains this one, in which I discuss the origins of cinnamon and egg-nog, especially taken in conjunction with subsequent Posts #94, 95, and 96:
There was that day we discussed recurrent dreams and the meanings thereof, especially that dream that you’re having some emergency and try dialing 911 and can’t get through somehow. As always, I pointed out, everything you need to know about dream interpretation can be found in Genesis:
Here, Johanna declares Professor Senegoid’s lecture on Quantum Physics to be the Threadwinner! The topic at hand was when an atom, approaching your person, becomes part of you.
Note the final paragraph, in which I note that I was about to write something similar about electrons. In a later installment in this lecture series, I did touch upon the subject, with a cautionary anecdote that happened in my laboratory:
Never mind Qadgop the Mercotan’s erudite and perspicacious essay on his philosophy of opioid prescriptions. Yes, that was a valuable contribution, of course. But I’m still particularly partial to his cautionary anecdote about his patient’s bizarre penis.
(Note, the bagel dog link is long defunct, but here’s another one with several pics that are just as good.)
There aren’t many of my posts that I’m proud of. Sadly far more that I regret.
This one I think earned a notch. In the thread “Is there anyone alive today who knew Robert Lincoln?” I uncovered the answerin this post. A few posts later the OP pointed out that my post corresponded to an event I guess I’m not supposed to mention but it also makes it memorable for me.
I posted a thread that had hundreds of views (maybe thousands?) but only one person replied which tells me I came up with an awesome title for a horrible thread
I can’t really think of any particular one, but I do find that whenever someone resurrects an ancient thread and I run across one of my own posts from 10 or more years ago, I always think to myself, “I used to write some good stuff. What the hell happened?”
I’ve seen many equally or more interesting patients since, but every time I posted anything about it, I got accused of HIPAA violations. As if I don’t know the rules, and follow them . . .
This is probably mine. I’m not even sure it’s the funniest thing I’ve posted here, but it did prompt a couple of respected posters to comment appreciatively and inspired a little larnin’ to boot.
