Add me to the list - I’m a straight female(with some mild bi-sexual tendencies, although I’ve never acted on them, and probably never will), who absolutely loves man on man action. It’s nice to know that I’m not alone.

I’m curious… what type of man-on-man porn attracts women? There’s such a vast variety of it out there, I can’t help but wonder whether there’s a specific genre that attracts women more than others.
I can’t, for instance, imagine that ‘bear’ porn is popular…
Slash is male/male erotic fanfic, deriving its name from the slash between the character names (i.e., Kirk/Spock, Nicholas/LaCroix, Kai/Prince).
I haven’t a clue what yaoi is, though.
MrVisible, I suspect the majority of women are attracted to fairly mainstream m/m porn, although I could be wrong. Also, just as in het erotica, many women prefer that there’s some sort of underlying romantic or psychological tension.
I like the ice cream analogy… although it doesn’t explain why I fantasize that I’m a man.
I make no claim to 100% accuracy here
Well, in regards to Fanfiction writing, it’d be involving two straight (maybe not always both straight, but not both gay) characters in a romantic involvement. On the other hand, I have a gay character in my fics who is only involved with my orginal characters, so even though homosexuality is involved I wouldn’t call it slash. An example of BtVS slash would be a romantic entanglement between Giles and Spike .
While I wouldn’t watch gay porn, I wouldn’t claim not to see the apeal of it. It’s certainly more of a turn on than 2 girls.
It was Blur; the song is Girls & Boys, from the Parklife album.
Uh, that would be Blur “Boys and Girls”.

Damn you, Jabba!
Oh, and FWIW, many women I have known have been titilated by the idea of boys on boys.
A group of female friends of mine even managed to convince my best friend and me on to kiss (I mean really kiss!) in public. Alcohol had something to do with it, of course, but they seemed just as keen to see two men necking as my mate and I would have been to watch a couple girls going at it.
I don’t see this as being any more mysterious to the traditional girl/girl fantasy many men hold. Part curiousity, part cheap thrills.
All parties in the above anecdote were, and remain, heterosexual. FWIW.

I’ve never seen a hard-core gay porn video, but I have read gay fiction–that is, stories written by and for men, whereas I see slash being primarily by and for women (although I know gay men who write and enjoy it too). The tone of the two are a bit different.
Reading, I tend to go for the literary stuff–E.M Forster’s Maurice (although I much prefer the film to the book), James Baldwin, and I’ll even include Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited in this category. I’m not terribly into visual media, but I do collect homeoerotic movies I like–the above-mentioned Maurice is one of my favorites, Gods and Monsters, Wilde, and I got the first series of the British Queer and Folk for my birthday last year.
Writing slash, I write Deep Space Nine fanfic, mostly Garak/Bashir. Some of it is pretty mild, but others are explicit. I write under my real name, and am a tad reluctant to post it here; if anyone’s interested, please e-mail me and I’ll give you the URL for my website.
For me, my interests are purely on the fictional. As a straight lady with haggish tendencies, I have a number of gay men-friends, but I’ve never looked to them for my sexual entertainment. I’ve always felt that that would be insulting–as if their sexuality exists for my amusement and I’m hanging around with them for voyueristic thrills. If gay friends kiss in front of me, I’ll treat it the same way I do when straight couples do.

That noise you heard was the sound of a kitten slowly being squeezed to death. Though when Angel and Spike get into their dom/sub vamp stuff… [sub]s’cuse me for a moment…[/sub]
Count me in. The more penises (penii?) the better!!! Except when my friends are involved… I don’t get all hot and bothered when gay friends make out. I’ve often wondered if it’s a chemical thing… most of the women I know that feel likewise when it comes to g/g action have always joked about having more testosterone than they really need, and while it’s kind of a funny-ha-ha thing, I do wonder sometimes if it’s true.
Anyone interested in starting a research study? I bet there are grants out there for this… think of all the porn we’d get to watch!
MrVisible, I have a few gay porn tapes, and from what I’ve seen they’re “standard” fair. Pretty boys seducing one another, mostly. Can’t speak for everyone else though.
And am I really the only one to notice hillbilly’s rather cryptic post? Spill, kid!

**OK, I’ll bite (hmmm…, I don’t know about that in this thread…). What is slash writing? How about yaoi? **
Slash has been explained, but I’ll explain YAOI.
YAOI are Japanese comics (and increasingly cartoons) that feature sexual relationships between two men. Western fans, though, often use the term loosely to mean “gay relationships of any kind in anime/manga.” PG-rated YAOI (just romance, no sex) is more properly called shounen ai.
YAOI is an acronym for Yama nashi, imi nashi, ochi nashi – "“Without climax, without meaning, without resolution.” The running gag, though, is that it stands for “Yamete! Oshiri ga itai!” (“Ouch! My ass hurts!”)
It’s been around for about thirty years in Japan, and it’s almost entirely by women, for women. It ranges from bad, hilarious soft-core (Boku no Sexual Harassment) to lurid, tortured romance-novels (Zetsuai) to light-hearted romantic comedy (Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki). The one common element is that the men are all incredibly beautiful, and are almost always separated along strict sex-roles (a butch guy and a femme guy).
Recently, it spawned a lesbian equivalent – Yuri (“lily”). And the last ten years, both have spilled over into mainstream anime, so that when it comes over here and gets translated into English, certain lines are changed – which is to say censored. Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Revolutionary Girl Utena were all censored for gay and lesbian content.
Google YAOI, and you’ll get hundreds of sites.

Ah, I hate to hijack but wasn’t this originally a Pet Shop Boys track that was covered by Blur? Or do you propose it was the other way around?
It’s a Blur tune - their album has a version remixed by PSB.
Mr. Jane and I are reformed swingers striving to become poly, and even though he’s 100% straight, I still envision him holding some sweaty, cute little boy by the back of the neck while he…oh, wait.
Oh, my.
Are you taking applications?

See, that’s what I was wondering in the OP. Although I love to dress up (got a new black PVC miniskirt yesterday that just barely covered my coochie, put it on with a tight sleeveless turtleneck, sheer black hose and my 20-eyelet, five-buckle, knee-high steel-toes… and the boyfriend took me out just to show me off ), wear make-up, do my hair–all that stuff–I’ve always had a strong “inner male.” Since it was quite a surprise to my parents and our doctor that I came out of the womb a girl, I wonder if I do somehow have higher testosterone levels?
The kind of m/m stuff I like? It must have some sort of emotional or psychological tension, and although one of my favorite books involving this sort of thing is The Persian Boy by Mary Renault, I prefer explicit sex. The slash I write (Forever Knight and LEXX for the most part) is always explicit. It turns me on and my readers like it.
Sometimes I wonder if seemingly innocuous shows include homoerotic moments on purpose. Two examples:
[ul]
[li]In the LEXX episode, Gigashadow, the character Kai has run out of the protoblood that sustains him. His pet scurries up with a tube of the stuff and dribbles it over Kai’s full lips. The camera closes in tight on Kai’s face as his eyes flutter open and he reaches up his fingers to wipe some of the protoblood off his face and put it in his mouth.[/li][li]Many episodes of Forever Knight, but here’s one moment: Nick (a blue-eyed blond with a mobile mouth) is hallucinating that he’s in a jail cell; his vampire master, LaCroix is dressed as a guard. LaCroix puts his hand through the bars to stroke Nick’s cheek and rather than pulling away, Nick just looks at him with childlike eyes.[/li][/ul]
Matt, I’ll give you directions to my house for a personal interview. You just let me know when you’re available.
BTW, Miss Mapp, where would I learn about these slash conventions? Any handy-dandy links would be appreciated.

One word: twins
MeanJoe: a) Although I posted a similar point, that was Narrad’s post you quoted.
b) matt-mcl has answered your specific question, but yes that is what I am proposing. The liner notes to Parklife give for Girls & Boys:
s[ong by]: Albarn. m[usic by] Albarn-Coxon-James-Rowntree.

The one I go to is called Connexions. I’ll see if I can find online info for you.

From my brain through your keyboard. How does that happen?
I agree with Broken Doll. With men it seems to be just pure, raw sex.
