Powerpuff Girls Movie

I just read an online critic and read a few weeks ago from the local paper’s critic about the upcoming movie. I believe it opens this coming weekend, or the next. They both said something like (paraphrase) “blah blah blah upcoming Powerpuff Girls Movie…surely the worst cartoon on the air …blah blah blah”. I happen to think it’s a great cartoon and watch it regularly. Does anyone else out there like this show?

I found it amusing and then I heard part of an interview with the series creator, Craig McCracken, on NPR ( ). Anyway, his original take was that, instead of Chemical X, Professor Utonium spilled a can of Whup Ass into the mix and created the Whup Ass Girls, which I is much funnier than the Powerpuff Girls, but, as Mr McCracken said, you can’t market The Whup Ass Girls to pre-adolescent girls. Successfully, anyway. I became a big fan of The Whup Ass Girls after listening to that show.

too violent

I love it, and so does my nine-year old sister. I’m going to take her to the movie on Wednesday for sure.

I used to like the PPG. I can’t say that I dislike the show now but I don’t actively watch it anymore.

I can’t imagine 90 minutes or so of the PPG, though.

Mojo Jojo kicks ass! He is the only reason I watch that show at all.

Yeah, I heard about the Whoopass Girls thing. Pretty funny. I’ve watched it since last year. It’s a great show. I love Mojo, but Him is my favorite villain for sure. Really original and off beat. I’m going to see the movie if I can.

Never really watched, although I’ve been in the room many times while the younger Odds were enjoying. I just like getting my daughter all worked up by calling them the Powderpuff Girls, or by mixing up the girls (not hard to do for me).

The critics mentioned in the OP obviously has not attempted to watch some of dreck that’s currently being passed off as cartoons–unsurprising, as his symptoms indicate a missing sense of humor. At worst, PPG cartoons are mindless entertainment; at their best, they’re quite witty and original. Perhaps the critics prefer the “crude, stupid, and badly animated” school of cartoons which regrettably seems to have a stranglehold on cartoons made for adults these days (ah, well–there’s always anime).

I occasionally watch the cartoon and like it, but I don’t plan on going to the movie. I may catch it at Blockbuster.

I think they are great. The critic obviously isn’t a cartoon fan. I’m personally enjoying the string of cartoons to hit TV lately. Dexter, Spongebob, PPG, Hey Arnold. These are pretty good cartoons.

My daughter and son both like PPG and Im sure we will go see it when it comes out (and they get back from vacation)

As for its adult likeability, has anyone seen the Beatles parody? It was pure genius! Especially Mojo Jojos’ Yokoesque gf who had the most horrific screech:)

And Yes Mojo Jojo is the best evil villain there is! He is the best because he is better than all the other inferior villains and he is more evil!

It’s hard to see how they’ll go from 13 minute plots to a 90 minute one. Especially since their are plenty of “eh” episodes mixed in with the really good ones.

Let me be the first to say…Bubbles rules!

The Space Ghost & Brak promos on CN are a riot. “The Powerpuff Girls Movie - opening this Christmas!”

I’d much rather have a Sealab 2021 movie, though.

Hey, why not go all the way, and have a Space Ghost movie?

So, SHAKES, I take it I’m not the only one to consider Bubbles the most bad-ass of the trio?

“Whoa! She took the laser all the way up to eleven!”

Isn’t the gangrene gang a copy of some Hanna-Barbera characters from the 70’s? I vaguely recall similar characters from my youth, perhaps in the Animalympics programs.

Fuzzy Lumpkin is my favorite, I think, followed closely by Mojo. And I don’t think the cartoons are any more violent than the Bugs Bunny cartoons I watched as a youngster. So there.

And I think Sealab 2021 is the most bizarre cartoon I ever did see, mostly because it looks so “normal”, at least initially.

Are you thinking of the Really Rottens from the Laff-a-lympics? I think the similarities are superficial.

No way, man, Buttercup whups the most ass of all!

I love the PowerPuff Girls  My 21 year old niece and I are going to see the movie tomorrow night.

My favorite episode is the one where Mojo Jojo crashes the girls slumber party as Mojisha. Favorite line: “Why Mojisha? How could you be so mean? We were having so much fun.” I love that episode.

Oooh and the one where the girls think they need a gimmick to be special. Bubbles calls herself Harmony Bunny and goes around throwing happy stickers on the monsters to make them nice, Blossom wears a WonderWomanesque costume and drives a sports car, and Buttercup calls herself Mange and won’t go in the sunlight.

I could go on and on. I love the PowerPuff Girls. It’s one of my favorite Aunt/Niece activities. Whenever I have all the girls over, one of the things we do together is sit and watch PowerPuff cartoons.

I’ll probably go see the movie.

Then again, if they made a 90 minute version of the “Mojo Bubbles” episode, I’d go see that too!
