I have a math degree and a Masters in Computer Science and yet I can not add numbers in my head. Not large numbers, mind you, but stuff like $3.99 and $2.46.
When people verbally spell words I can’t figure out what it is unless it has fewer than three letters. If someone says “I-D-I-O-T” I hear “I-D-blah-blah-blah-blah”.
I can’t remember numbers. For example, I don’t know my work phone number despite being here for three years. However, I can remember the face of someone I last saw 20 years ago.
OK, supper is in the oven. I provided this recipe:
Healthy White Sauce
1 cup water
1 bouillion cube (your choice - I use chicken)
1 tablespoon dried minced onion or the fresh equivalent
Bring the above to a boil, breaking up the cube and stirring, then add
1# frozen cauliflower pieces
Bring back to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Stir periodically, breaking up the florets. Overcook till the cauliflower is mush. Then set aside to cool.
In a blender, dump the cauliflower mush with all its liquid and about 1/2 cup of milk or other liquid. Salt and pepper or other seasonings or spices to taste. Process till smooth.
I use this in place of a white sauce in tuna casserole and tonight’s ham-noodle casserole. You could use it anywhere cream-of-whatever soup is called for, although you might need to double the recipe. It’s healthy and tasty - I got the recipe from Weight Watchers a gazillion years ago.
So my casserole is in the oven and daughter’s pup has had his stitches removed. It’s been a rainy day, a nice slow steady shower - yay!
I’m tired, I hope to go to bed early and sleep thru the night, but that feat has eluded me for over a week… <yawn>
**Mookai **- the cake recipe sounds faboo!! I will try it!
Off to set the table.
ETA: **Deeg **- I’m the opposite - I remember my phone number from my childhood - it hasn’t been my parents’ number since 1979 - but I couldn’t tell you the name of the NCIS guy who spoke to us this morning…
So headed to Norfolk today. Currently in Houston waiting for next connection. Bobbio pm me if you are free on Friday night as I don’t head home til Saturday if the dinner offer stands!
Some people want me to go live at the Renaissance Faire permanently.
When you tell someone that your department has not supported XYZ in over four years, and suggest what other group does support it, you’d expect them to go to the other group. You don’t expect them to wait three weeks, then come back and ask why you weren’t able to support them in their need to make XYZ work. You really don’t expect them to write a terse nastygram to your boss complaining that you aren’t helping them with XYZ.
I sent a copy of my three week old advice to my boss, and they bounced it right over to the Clueless One, echoing my advice to go bother the other group.
Yay for MOOOOOOM and Yay for good so far new job Missy!
Dindin tonight was steak, a marvelous sallit of baby spinach, red onion, red seedless grapes, mandarin oranges, strawberries and toasted pecans with a balsamic vinegarette dressin’ and I sauteed some 'shrooms to go with the steaks. Oh and cheesey garlic bread. NUM!
I went to the Evening Prayer/Healing Service at the church house. Nice service!
Good luck on the interview, Bobbbio! Hope you and Mmmmmms can meet up for dinner this Friday, btw.
FCM, I’ll bet if that had been Mark Harmon from the NCIS, you’d have remembered him! Me, I’ve got a pretty close-up pic (taken by moi!) of Tom Selleck–he was at the opening of the Navy Memorial on PA Avenue in downtown DC–I keep it up on my bulletin board at my desk at work. laughs You wouldn’t believe how many people ask, “Who is that?!” when checking him out. OMG, as if!! “That’s my hubby!” (cha, right!) And he looks as good as always … if you don’t believe me, check out Blue Blood on Friday nights some time. fans self
Uh … yes, where was I now? Oh yes, tomorrow is at least Thursday and we’re one day closer to the weekend. Hugs and get well wishes as needed. Glad to hear your teh sick is winding down, BooFae!
We’ve just received a Talk from the boss, and two of my coworkers are leaving (their choice). I’m terribly not sorry, considering which ones it is, but being nice and refraining from dancing down hallways.
I am not sure but I think a few of the folks at Pensic do.
On another note SANTARCHY 2010 IS SET!!! The Pittsburgh date is December 11 and the time roughly 1:30 to midnight or whenever you pass out. They have a Facebook page at
and I will be happy to give local advice, tactics, or hold the hand of any puking Doper who wants to attend.
I was at spinning (indoor cycling) class at 5:45 this morning. So that’s why I’m tired.
I hate making pie. My mother swears it’s the easiest dessert. No. No, it’s not. I can’t roll out crust to save my life. Ugh. It had better taste good today to be worth all the hassles last night. And then I’m not making another pie for a good long time. (Buying a crust seems like cheating. Even if it does save me from wanting to tear my hair out.)
I’m contemplating a sweater dress for this year’s work Christmas party. ('Cause it’s always cold here for the xmas party so having a long-sleeved sweater dress is much more comfortable than the sexy but cold sleeveless dresses that some of my coworkers like to wear.) I like this one in purple or this one in red. Which one do Mumpers prefer?
