Preacher -- The New Show / Old Comic Now Airing on AMC

Still watching, but I have issues with Jesse ordering people to believe in God. I was glad that Eugene called him on this bullshit and thought that when he realized he sent him to hell it would finally give him a clue, but it didn’t seem to do so. I’m now curious to see how it turns around for him, and if he can get Eugene back given that he’s not present to hear a command to return.

The thing about Jesse is that he is an antihero, not a hero, much like Walter White was. Part of us is cheering for me, but part of us also wants to see his ass kicked. He ain’t no Clark Kent/Superman, and Eugene was definitely on to him. Perhaps in hell he will awaken the Saint of Killers to get revenge.

Still watching and IMHO it keeps getting better. Last episode was great in that we finally got an explanation of what Genesis is, and why the angels are after it. We also got a glimpse of how it can be misused. I wonder if Eugene is coming back…

I am definitely still enjoying it. That opening fight scene was awesome and hilarious. Especially when Cassidy comes in and shoots the angel and thinks he’s just saved the day.

Yes, Jessie is an anti-hero but I think he’ll become a little more true hero once he realizes how drunk on power he’s being and pulls himself back. He had sort of this epiphany when he decided to use it for good, now he just has to realize maybe he shouldn’t be using it so willy nilly at all.

It looked like Jesse was about to put the whammy on the whole congregation. That would have been a disaster.

He’s still going to, isn’t he? I seem to recall him smiling and heading to the front door right before closing credits.

I think that’s his normal crazy face. He is half crazy.

What happens when he tells the whole church to “see the light?” A hyper solar flare wipes out the town?

Just watched it again and I’m still laughing about the angel Brits in Texan drag. I don’t know what the deal is with AMC, but they seem determined to recolonize the US.

I’m a little worried about Eugene going to hell. The show established earlier that the voice can’t make people do things they’re not physically capable of doing. Cassidy couldn’t fly when ordered to, nor could he name state capitols he’s never heard of. But Eugene gets cast into the lake of sulfur at Jesse’s say-so.

So, either the show is ignoring its owm continuity this early on, which would suck.

Or, they just established that everyone of us is capable of transporting ourselves to hell at will, we just don’t know it because we never try. Which would be awesome.

Some people say maybe it’s Hell, Michigan. Still, that’s a bit of a distance.

Anyone else feel a bit bad for Cassidy?

I mean, they had a party and didn’t invite him!

Or maybe banishing things to hell is simply another one of Genesis’s powers. Do-one said it’s just a voice of command, right?

That was an absolutely hilarious fight scene! I was practically rolling on the floor.

Why do Brits say “shite” instead of “shit?” There’s no e on it.

There is when Brits say it.

Plot at last, plot at last, Thank God almighty we have plot at last.

I have been one of the complainers that there has been little to no explanation of what the hell is happening (I know nothing of the comics). Until this episode. At last there was the explanation in the diner by the Custodians.

That early fight scene with the bodies piling up in the motel room was terrific.

Were there two direct line phones to Heaven? One angel smashed a phone, but then Jesse seemed to push another one across the bedside table in the motel? I’d try to watch that scene again but I erased the episode from my DVR already.

I still am puzzled by the Cowboy and how he fits into all this, but I’m OK with that for now.

The soccer mom angel had a phone in her vehicle. They stole it, along with a wanted poster, when they fled the diner at the beginning of the episode.

2nd phone was taken from the higher angel in the diner’s parking lot.
eta As Tarwater explained. 'Cause ninja

Ahh. Thanks! I missed that somehow.

<bolding mine>

Point of order - he didn’t order him to ‘believe in god’ - he ordered him to ‘serve god’ - and clearly its not going to have the intended affect.

‘Well, god told me these guys needed killin’’ isn’t exactly falsifiable.

Yeah, Genesis is an entity so powerful demons and angels would go nuts to control it. It’s got to have a lot more power than simply telling people what to do.
