Good to know! Thanks.
Agreed. Cassidy was just too much for my ears>brain to sort out.
Seems weird to me that they have subtitles for shotgun face kid, who is perfectly understandable, but not for Cassidy
Another good episode. I loved the shot of Jesse standing under the tree and looking out, it was so beautiful I wasn’t sure if it was part of a dream sequence or something. And Cassidy continues to be a delight.
I think the mother really has forgiven Arseface, though she probably doesn’t understand why she did, other than Preacher asking her to. If Jesse had just said to hug Arseface, then she would do that like a puppet while inside she’s feeling revulsion.
I don’t think they’ve really shown the limits of Jesse’s power. He told Donnie to sit down on the toilet, but I think he also said he could leave after taking the gun out of his mouth. I’m not sure what would have happened if Jesse had just left the bathroom, if Donnie would still be sitting there. But I’d guess that coma girl has blinked or closed her eyes, because we’ve seen the mother and she would have been panicking or upset if the girl’s eyes refused to close and were dried out now.
Have they been explicit about why everyone holds Arseface responsible for coma girl? My initial thought was that she and him had a suicide pact but I’m not sure that would explain why everyone blames him.
I thought suicide pact, too - that’s basically what happened in the comic, except it was another teenaged boy, and he was more competent with the shotgun - but in the episode that introduced Tracy, her mother mentioned that it was a fall from horseback that put her in the coma.
My best guess right now is that Eugene went out to a field to kill himself, and Tracy happened to be riding nearby. When he pulled the trigger, the shot startled the horse and threw her.
Makes it edgier, man.
I’m kinda getting over this whole thing, but I’ll slog through to spend time with the wife. As it is, skipping the commercials cuts it down to about a half-hour, it seems.

That’s funny. In the comics, Arseface just babbles in long strings of consonants. It is totally possible to work out what he is saying, if you have the patience.
As for the show itself, my interest is rapidly fading.
Ditto. And based on brief previews I wanted to like this show.
I have no knowledge of the comic so I think I’m at a disadvantage. There are far too many completely puzzling mysteries and not enough forward movement for my taste. Most of the time I’m kind of listening to my brain ask “whaaat?”.
I never read the comic either but I am not seeing all these puzzling mysteries. Some unanswered questions, sure, but it’s not like they are piling up Lost style.
I agree. I read the comic but this entire story so far was inspired by about a page of action in the first issue. It’s gone pretty far off in its own direction.
I never knew the comic book, so I had no preconceived notions going in. That said, I like the show. It ain’t Ozzie and Harriet.
I liked this at first, but it’s moving so slowly that it’s not really keeping my interest. I haven’t caught the last episode or two, and I’m feeling inclined to wait until the season finishes, then binge it.
I’m really hoping that now that were 5 slow episodes in that the pace is going to pick up for the last half of the season.
I’m betting the Cowboy to get more involved in the next episode or two and that’ll help to get the story going. The main story hasn’t really felt like it’s started yet. These 5 episodes have just felt like a prelude.
So yeah hopefully it picks up and starts moving along.
Last week was the first episode where I felt like there was some forward momentum, so I’m hopeful for the back half of the season.
The people are staying true to the comic. There are subtitles, in the comic, for Arseface but none for Cassidy.
I was curious about this so I pulled out the first trade and flipped through until I got a page with Arseface on it and you’re close but it’s not quite how you remember it.
Here is a sampling, quoting directly from page 85:
A: FUHUHSUH LUHMUH! MUH WUHHH YUH BUHH! WHUHH TUHH WHUHBUH, UH?
subtitle in blurb off in bottom corner of panel: FATHER AND SON LAWMEN! ME WATCHIN’ YOUR BACK! WHAT A TEAM WE’D BE, HUH?
I looked at other examples on the page and it’s pretty much the same. The breaking up of the words don’t match between what A says and the subtitle. But if you read the subtitle then it is easy to figure out what A is saying in the way he says it.
I’m loving the story so far. The little surprise at the end with Quincannon was a great holy shit moment. Tulip and Cassidy are great anchors, as is Jesse, because you’re not quite sure if you’re for him or against him (like, say, Walter White). He 's a great modern anti-hero. I’m quite happy with the pacing so far.
The Leftovers also had slow moments, but what a payoff over the course of the season. E8 “International Assassin” was perhaps the best episode of TV storytelling in a long time. I think Preacher has that kind of potential.

Last week was a hell of an episode. AV Club gave it an A, but my feeling is that people are still having trouble with the show’s narrative structure. Is anybody still watching?
I LOVED the most recent episode. The hotel scene was an amazing and hilarious action scene. And I really hope Eugene isn’t gone for good. I also liked Tulip and Emily becoming friends, it gives both characters something more in the show and it’s more interesting than them fighting over Jesse like it originally seemed like they were gonna do.
I don’t have any issues with the narrative structure, I feel like the story is moving along nicely. There are still gaps to fill in, like the old cowboy who is still unconnected to the rest of the storylines, but I think it’s well balanced.
It doesn’t seem like many here are watching but apparently it’s getting good enough ratings and has been given a second season, which I’m excited to hear about. I’m guessing that it might be like other AMC series and will grow more of an audience as it goes along and people go back and start watching it.
I liked the latest ep more than the last few. The hotel battle with Fiore and Deblanc and the constant reincarnating was fun. We learned more about Genesis but I think by now most people have already read about it so it’s not so news. The Tulip scenes are the slow parts and aren’t moving much.
Oops. Don’t say “go to hell.”
