Preacher -- The New Show / Old Comic Now Airing on AMC

We have not yet met adult carlos - but he would have been the one speeding away in the car after Jesse shot the guard/cop in the head.

He is the reason Tulip got the Map - which was to trade for Carlos’s whereabouts - so that they (Tulip and Jesse) could get justice.

I’m of the impression that Jessie thinks Cassidy is full of shit. Tulip, on the other hand.

At first I thought maybe he accepted it based on how freely he was tossing Cassidy around the room with his Power Word: Command. But then he didn’t seem to understand why he was dressed so weird outside, so I’m leaning toward no.

Speaking of, I thought it was super weak how Cassidy was strolling around inside the sun-drenched church without a care in the world in the first half of that scene. (I was reminded of similar lameness/annoyance with Buffy/Angel.)

He’s not an instant explode when touching sunlight type of vampire. It mostly just hurts and he has to be in it a bit to do actual damage.

In the following video is a panel with the producers, crew and Garth Ennis. (The write for the comics.)

There is a major spoiler about mid way through the 40 minute video.

But in the video they said they purposely made the beginning slow to introduce the characters to the people before they start the main story. They said in the comics you hit the ground running from page one and you can’t really do that with a tv show because then everyone will be all like, “WTF mate?”.

Everyone should watch the video from the 8 minute mark to the 11:20 mark. It is just Joe Gilgun, (Cassidy), answering a question about the choreography of the fight scene on the plane. No spoilers. I thought Cassidy was a bit erratic but man Joe has like Super ADHD. Cassidy is just a very very toned down version of Joe. He’s so whacky.

Seth even says that you never have to ask if Joe is on set, you already know.
The spoiler in case anyone doesn’t want to watch the video. It made me happy.
They said that God is going to be in the show.

I was worried they might not have him in the show do to how they portray him in the comics and it possibly pissing off a bunch of uptight religious folks. I still think they’ll probably tone him down and not be such a total dick.
I’m behind on my TV viewing but this coupled with the strong hint from Cassidy in the opening of this last episode that they are going to hit the road by season’s end, it gives me hope that they have a solid plan. I’m in for the ride as long as they have a plan.

Right. And since he heals so quickly/fully, even when he catches on fire it’s just pain, not lasting damage.

The equivalent effect for humans would be getting tazed, or electrified. Imagine walking around a room with as much exposed live electric wiring as there was sunlight in that room. Would you be as casual as he was? Would anybody?

Wasn’t it back in the first episode we saw him sitting around the corner of a building in shade and sticking his hand around the corner into sunlight and watching it flame up? Catching on fire is at times annoying and hard on the clothing budget, but not obviously excruciating. This guy smokes ceiling insulation. I don’t think he does pain or anything.

Not sure which episode, but yeah, I totally remember that scene. And he was doing it out of what appeared to be boredom, the same way I might flick my lighter on and off when bored.

Excellent point; I withdraw my complaint.

Last night’s episode was goooooood!!

So since the agents from Heaven…

told Jesse that’s not the power of God inside him, does that mean every person Jesse used his power on is now “infected” like Odin?

It was pretty good. Cassidy tends to steal whatever scene he’s in. They don’t seem in a rush to turn this into a road trip show. Lots of stuff going on in town.

The angels are a kick. “Look, we got you what you asked for. The cocaine, the black beauties…”

I was wondering how his “serve God” command would backfire. Has coma girl ever blinked? Her eyes must have dried out by now. Did the mother really forgive arseface? Or is her body just obeying Jesse’s command while on the inside she’s screaming “no, no, no!”

I’m confused about the Cowboy. Did he just imagine the nice family getting killed (make the boy watch!)? Did he kill all those people hanging from the tree?

Sorry God, but after 40 days on that ark, I can’t stop stroking my cock!

I was confused by the “wild west” cowboy at the beginning. I don’t know what that’s about.

But this episode had some good moments. The angels are hilarious! And I love hearing Cassidy talk, even if I can’t understand half of what he says. And Tulip continues to titillate and amuse me.

I can’t wait to see how the angels are going to deal with Jesse and his new powers.

How many more episodes are left?

They’re slowly introducing the backstory of a pivotal character.

One of the most badass characters in comics that will play a major role in the series if it’s anything like the comic. Imagine Clint Eastwood’s Man with No Name as an unstoppable supernatural killing machine.

What gave you those ideas? For a second I wondered when he first went by the tree if the Cowboy was responsible but now I think it’s clear, it’s the town’s “welcome” billboard advertising what happens to Indians and Mexicans that come too close. And I assume the nice family brutality was not imagined.

Pretty good episode imo. Action and character set up. Fun stuff.

No, he didn’t imagine that. He went to that town to get medicine for his daughter (previous episode showed this) and had to wait for the medicine. So what he saw was all the debauchery going on at the saloon. Then he came across the family he briefly met before, realized they were headed to that same town, and went back to try and save them, only to find the father was selling scalps. So my guess is the father killed the Indians hanging from the tree and scalped them for money.

No, the Cowboy beat them to town so those hanging from the tree were not done by them. No reason to think so as there is apparently a thriving scalp trade, so any bounty hunter could have been responsible for the guys in the tree.

Okay, I get it. The nice family did get killed, Cowboy minds his own business, leaves the next morning, passes the wagon family and assumes the same thing will happen to them, goes back and finds the father selling scalps, gets beat up, the preacher tells us he was with the 4th Virginian and likes killin’ people, gets his horse shot, walks home and finds his family gone, grabs his guns and I guess is now going to take up killin’ again. The people hanging from the tree was just to show us what kind of people live in Ratwater.

That is my take. It is a town fullof people who need killing, including father&co. Especially when you reflect on the Pharmacist cheerfully sending nice family to the saloon/whorehouse/scalp payout HQ. “They got some nice ice cream in the back!”.

I would say they are

prone to take the commandment literally, much like many bible-thumpers, which leads to all kinds of logical contradictions. So somehow Odin can rationalize gunning down the Green Acres people as “serving God” if, for example, their intentions were not entirely honourable.

I have found that liberal use of the Closed Caption button to be of great use for this show.

Loved more backstory for the cowboy. Looks like some killin’ needs done. I’m excited.

Odin getting voiced to “serve God” is going to have interesting consequences. I’m loving Jackie Earl as Odin.

It seems like they are setting up Jesse to be using the voice too much and that some bad things are going to come of it. It’s clear the voice is going to his head and he’s liking the power too much.

I forgot to address this.

There will be 10 episodes for this season so there are 5 left. It seems to be getting good ratings so hopefully next season will be longer.
