Preacher -- The New Show / Old Comic Now Airing on AMC

Interesting…

I found it oddly refreshing that the ritual didn’t include Latin chanting.

And a quick search tells me he sang a lullaby published in 1889.

I didn’t know the name of the ‘force’ - thanks.

But I agree with your conjecture - as it is functionally what I told SimWife when we were discussing this yesterday.

I think he’s torn.
He’s all out of faith. This is how he feels. He’s cold and he’s ashamed, lying naked on the floor.
Nothing’s fine, he’s torn.

Not only is he torn, but now he’s got an angel and a demon living inside him too. Well, half-angel, half-demon. The perfect superhero.

I think that whatever reason that Jesse was able to take the spirit and not explode is the same reason that the guys couldn’t get the spirit out of him. Could be the crisis of faith, could be Jesse is just more suitable for some reason.

But that was an awesome fight scene between Cassidy and the agents. And I loved the cut off arm holding onto the chainsaw and heading towards Jesse, and Cassidy slipping around in the blood and then grabbing it.

I hope that something more happens soon with Tulip’s story, since it’s a bit repetitive with her bugging Jesse about how he needs to get in on the job and how he really is a bad man, although the “kidnapping” scene was fun. But I do like the Tulip character and how she’s written and played.

Was bored and watched the 2d ep last night (after cancelling my series recording).

I would appreciate the weird, if it weren’t just so ugly.

That was pretty comical how Jesse told Cassidy he didn’t want any more trouble and Cassidy is all, “okay.” Then Jesse is passed out while Cassidy has a huge fight with supernatural chainsaw wielding bad guys, spatters the whole church with blood and has to clean the whole mess up before Jesse wakes up.

Yup, everything’s fine! No trouble!

I would have enjoyed the fight scene a lot more if it were better lit. It might just be my TV screen, though…

No. I was going to say the same thing. Couldn’t see a damn thing that was going on.

I thought that was really cool. Who says a spell or incantation has to be some Latin shit? Why couldn’t it be a song? There is a lot of power in song, of all kinds.

I am wondering if they are going to go anywhere with that. As I posted above, the lullaby/poem was published in 1889 and that cowboy flashback at the beginning was 1881.

“You made him make a bunny noise!”

This ep really sold me on the casting of Cassidy.

but how in the holy hell did they come up with this one?

I haven’t been able to see anything on TV since the premiere of the X Files.

I guess your mom didn’t recite Wynken, Blynken, and Nod to you. You had to be there.

What was that flashback all about? Did I miss one of the characters in it? Was the silent wandering cowboy** someone we know? If so, I didn’t recognize him.

**(reminded me of various Clint Eastwood characters from his spaghetti western days)

He’s a character in the comics who hasn’t otherwise been mentioned in the show. Presumably more will be explained soon and he’ll intersect with the other characters we’ve seen, but you haven’t missed anything, it was just setting up his character and the mood.

Ah. Thanks!

I don’t know but I suspect, because the proximity of time with the lullaby’s creation, we might get some background on the birth of Genesis as that flashback continues. Also, I am pretty sure that the tree with all the hanging scalped people from the flashback was the same tree Cassidy was burying the body parts box under.

Eta: I haven’t read the comics, so I’m totally guessing based on what I’ve seen on the show.
