C. Montgomery Burns, no? [in reference to Elvis’s quote]
Well played, Mr. Mace!
I predict a swing at gracious, but it’s hard to pull of with a smirk and little to no actual sincerity to draw on.
Followed by a lot of what ‘this’ means for ‘real’ American’s and the American ‘dream’ dying, etc, etc.
Probably finish up with ‘God wants me to make contributions, in other areas!’
Then crowned with the revelation that Mittens is ‘too humble’ to deny God’s will, or some such tripe!
I would prefer a non-monetary bet where the loser suspends his posting on this MB until the next US presidential election.
I nominate Richard Parker as the arbiter of the results. I don’t think anyone can accuse him of being biased towards Romney.
One of my favorite things about presidential elections are the in-depth behind the scenes articles that come out about the campaigns. The stories that the reporters agree not to talk about until after things are all wrapped up. They’re fascinating and I can’t wait to hear about the inner workings of the Romney campaign from those that saw it first hand.
**Predict how Mitt and Ann will respond to losing **
Question must be answered in two ways:
PUBLIC RESPONSE:
Mittens will say all the right things, maybe throwing in a comment that he will try to fake as a positive, but really mean as a dig. His smirkiness will give it away as bitter.
PRIVATE RESPONSE:
He will react as only Mittens know how, he will want to fire someone. When told that “it’s over, there really is no one to fire” he will go into his Scrooge McDuck room and roll around in money to make himself feel better.
I didn’t vote for Romney but I so hope he wins just to watch all the crybabies lose their minds and throw around words like, “White people are racist or else Obama would have won.” and “Republicans stole the election AGAIN.”
While you certainly may have some of that, on the whole, Democrats are usually quite gracious losers.
ETA Gyrate in post #18 nailed it, but the rest are fun hyperbole to read.
Join date 2008. You weren’t here in 2004.
I was lurking then.
Of course not. I’m being absurd in my speculations here. I only bet when both sides actually believe in what they post.
Well, McCain was gracious for about one night before he spent the next four years acting like said spoiled five year old who just had his toy taken away.
On the other hand, I don’t really see Romney as the surrogate/pundit type and I’m not convinced the current GOP is really his bag. I’d predict a gracious-as-can-be-expected exit off the national political stage.
I have been thinking the same thing with a couple of alterations …
-
Voluntary suspension is limited to GD, Elections and The Pit (bonus … it will be fun to watch the Mods deal with all the nasty political crap in the other forums)
-
Voluntary suspension occurs after a seven day period in which the losers get a chance to whine and make excuses
-
How about a more reasonable time period of six months?
I think for Ann Romney, it will be a huge sigh of relief if they LOSE!
Seriously, in a recent interview, she quickly stated that if Mitt loses, he will most certainly never run for another political office. It sounds like that discussion has already been had between the two of them. That also sounds to me like someone who is seriously tired of this whole process and maybe doesn’t really want to be First Lady and continue.
Not that I blame her. Remember her quote, “This is hard!” - elections are hard on every family - but she doesn’t seem to me like someone who wants to spend the next 4-8 years of her life going to icky poor areas and having to make nice to people who have not bathed recently and have no pithy comments to make over afternoon drinks on the veranda.
I also don’t think even Mitt will be too despondent - he has something that will make his resume look good, he can continue to make money hand over fist, and have plenty of new friends who will want to pal around with him. Mitt will always be the guy who came thisclose to beating Obama, and that alone will be all he needs to bask in the glow of defeat, which he will spin as “I won to the people who really matter in the USA.” He will consider this proof that if it weren’t for those annoying 47% of useless degenerates, he most certainly would have made life better for his cronies.
Tagg Romney gets shoved in a doggie carrier on the roof for the long drive back to the car elevator house in San Diego.
Ann Romney binges on a couple dozen show horses. You know they’ve been dying to buy some crazy extravagant shit since Mitt’s been running for President for six years. Maybe like a horse elevator, solid gold Cadillac Escalade. He’s definitely going to stimulate the economy a bit.
I agree with these predictions. Whoever loses will be gracious about it. Now their supporters, on the other hand…
Good point.
Mitt has shown throughout this campaign that he has the attitude of at least a spoiled twelve-year old.
Gracious concession speech.
Followed by Republican leaders who will vow to make Obama fail, make the economy tank, obstruct every bit of legislation they can find, and try for impeachment sometime in the next 4 years.
And an amended tax return filed November 7.
